One of the most well reputed superclub brands: Godskitchen returned to Sydney this October long weekend to present us with their latest tour. The name synonymous with large dance festivals and trance and progressive club tours did not fail to disappoint this time around delivering several of the hottest internationals on the scene at the moment. The line-up featured the amazing BT playing a live set, progressive trance superstars Gabriel & Dresden who are also known for their work under the moniker Motorcycle, and uplifting trance legends Above & Beyond winners of UK Radio One Essential mix competition. The event also featured a second room run by Sydney’s own Sweetchilli crew featuring Bedrock’s Luke Fair, Mark James, Daniel and Crispin and Ben Korbel.
After a long but memorable day at Fuzzy’s Parklife 7 we were worried about getting to the event on time with all the internationals starting from midnight onwards. However, after a miracle run taking just over an hour we managed to get home, change, shower, park, and get into the event before midnight. Unfortunately we did miss out on all the warm-up acts on offer prior to the internationals including Scott Richarson, Joshua Van Aalst, John Ferris and Peewee. As we arrived Gabriel and Dresden had just started their 2 hour set which I must say is definitely going into my floating top 5 sets of the year. Not only were all the tracks amazing and mixed immaculately but many also seemed to be custom edits of many of their remixes which fit perfectly into the extremely progressive structure of the set.
The duo slammed out two fantastic hours of tough progressive trance including some of their classic tracks which got them on the way to being one of the most respected acts of the moment. Some of the tracks they played were Arcadia with vocal samples from Jase From Outa Space – Do What You Want, Rachell Starr – Till There Was You (G & D Remix), their remix of Paul Oakenfold’s classic Southern Sun, and Mindcircus, the latter of which both went down amazingly with the crowd. Throughout the set the atmosphere was simply unbelievable especially towards the front of the room and the sound was crystal clear and very loud.
BT was up next and had started a little late which wasn’t a problem for most seeing as Gabriel and Dresden’s set was so enjoyable. He kicked of with a track sampling Limp Bizkit’s classic track Nookie which went down well and then moved on to play a live set full of quality melodic, progressive and tech and also a few tracks that alluded to his earlier progressive trance days such as Dreaming. Half way through his set though we took a breather from the main room and went to check out Luke Fair in the Sweetchilli room which was absolutely fantastic and made it quite difficult to want to leave to go back to the main room. He was laying down a nice funky tough prog house set to a fairly thin crowd; however they were all appreciating the tunes and having a great time. The setup at Space this time was improved to limit the sound leakage between the rooms and I must say it worked extremely well and the only point where there was some sound leakage was near the doorways.
As the night kicked on we went back to the main room to check out Above and Beyond who stepped up after BT finished to deliver some more quality uplifting tunes. This set was excellent however I think the long day and night was starting to wear me down by this stage and so we sat in the corner and chilled while listening to the onslaught of huge tunes. Some of the tracks played were the massive new track Airwave – Air for Life, William Orbit – Barbers Adagio for Strings (Ferry Corsten Remix), Above and Beyond – No One On Earth, and Ferry Corsten – Holding On (A&B Remix). The final track was possibly the most memorable and one that everyone should remember: Delerium – Silence (DJ Tiesto Remix) which really topped the night off. After Above and Beyond had finished we were so tired after an extremely fun and long day of partying that we darted straight to the car and then on to a comfy beanbags for some R & R. Overall, the night was really up there in terms of quality sets and the highlight in my opinion was by far Gabriel and Dresden. I did not feel there were any problems with the venue especially with the sound leakage fixed for this event, its good to see the promoters taking these things on board. Definately looking forward to the next one, see you there!
