I have this theory that good parking equals a great night, and it had yet to prove me wrong, but I did not even think about this saying until I walked a short distance to my car after a fantastic Sunday night at The Roxy.
So the story goes after meeting my mates at the entrance we made out way to the top of the stairs over looking the courtyard. For those who have yet to go there, Roxy was once a cinema, built in 1930s but was closed after 72 years and after 30 months of renovations reopened in 2004. Now The Roxy is known for its funky cream and brown decor, and lately for booking surprising well known djs to take part in the Sunday Social.
So while some of the crowd took their place chilling out on the stairs and others rocking the dance floor, which was increasing with each track that dj Cadell were putting down, it was only a short time before Kid Kenobi and MC Shureshock took the stage playing tracks off the sessions cd which was to be expected, also some from a year or two ago but not at all disappointing a packed Roxy crowd.
Both DJ and MC worked up a sweat, their vibe of having a great time was evident to punters and in return this was given backed to them with support with a many numbers hitting the dance floor and the stairs, mostly everyone was on their feet, rocking to the impressive beats.
I had a lot of my mates ask me, and others, is this usually how the Roxy is on a Sunday? And many people replied with the answer no. This was disappointing because this place has potential. But none the less I guessed we came on the right night.
It was time for their set to finish, although due to the demand of the crowd, Kid and Shureshock continued on for a few more tracks before Elroy and MC Losty took their turn and continued with the high level of talent that was on display on this memorable Sunday night to a funky crowd that was still rocking.
A great way to end any weekend, if you get the chance to see any of those included in this line up it’s an event not to be missed.
