Home, the only real ‘superclub’ in Sydney, celebrated its 7th birthday over the weekend with an atmosphere and lineup of music artists, which was second to none. The crowd was vibrant, colourful and in the mood to really party! Which is always good. There were people who were from the generation of when Paul Okenfold first played at Home and then there were the ‘new age’ crowd who enjoy the spoils of a great venue and a great variety of music. Home didn’t disappoint for anyone I don’t think.

The whole night had a theme of time, length, and variety. The message was Home was celebrating the fact that it was the ‘ultimate’ club for those who wanted the ultimate night out. Again it was going to be another big night of partying. Visual screens and the sharp use of lighting and sound best highlighted the environment that punters found themselves in. The statement “where were you?” splashed across the visual screens, reminiscing back to the humble beginnings of Home and the fairytale story of Then, Now and what’s still to come.

The music in the main was funky and deep house, but also included Electro/breaks and even house with a harder edge at times. Kate Monroe and Illya got the night off to a perfect start, playing their funky house and whipping the dance floor into a wild frenzy while clusters of balloons were ping ponging from one side to the other side of the main room. Sneaky Sound System was brilliant and the real treat of the night. Their quick set was memorable but also classy, vibrant and also very colourful as Double D and the rest of the troupe, shared in the festivities of the night. Smashing out the hit ‘Tease Me’ and belting out  ‘Hip Hip Hooray’ as the grand finale, as balloons fell from the ceiling and a huge number 7 was then lit up on stage to commemorate the evening.

Jonathan Wall was a little lackluster, but still good. Pnau then brought to the night a harder touch of electro/house music. The intensity rose as Pnau delivered a set that was interesting, different and with lots of new unexplored material. Electro and even rock played a huge influence in the deliverance of the whole set. The main room was perfect for hearing the hypnotic sounds that whipped people onto the dance floor and created a ‘feel good’ atmosphere throughout. With the hypnotic sounds came a hypnotic dancer, which added to the visual element of the night. Pnau had lots of energy and the dancer on stage provided a visual stimulation for the crowd, which was very simple but unique, something different to add to the whole surprise of the set. Goodwill and Alex Taylor kept the party in motion with the electro sound sewn into their house sets with full effect.

The other rooms, were also awesome, Ben Fletcher and the Finlay brothers played their usual style in the Purple Sneakers room, while upstairs on the terrace in the ‘Home Classics’ room, the crowds were rewarded with funky and happening sets from Jules Beaumont, Yogi and John Devecchis. Topping off a well-rounded night. Happy 7th Birthday Home! Knowing Home’s style though, I’m sure the next birthday will be even bigger and better! Something even more to look forward to.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
