If you arrived early on, you may have been under the impression you were in for some kind of generic Friday night beats. This could not have been further from the case, with Robyn Chaos and Raiden stopping in from the UK on the Adelaide leg of their Australian tour! Reknowned for their love of the dark side of d’n’b, and releases on a plethora of different labels, they succeeded in drawing Adelaide’s true-blooded dnb fans. As the crowd grew (slowly but surely), the beats folllowed… becoming steadily harder and darker.

The local lads were up there early, flaunting their strong form… and the crowd has come to expect no less! The line-up featured Vilen, Jason, MPK, and John Doe all dropping the d’n’b, and by the time the Fiction vs Filter duo started, the Black Cat dancefloor was starting to show its true colours.

Raiden was the first of the UK guest DJs to hit the decks. This guy was awesome… straight into the huge tracks, he blew the crowd away.
Raiden’s tunes feel like a hybrid of techno’s hypnotic and sinister sounds with heavyweight breaks and basslines. He is defnitely up there with the big guys, reading other reviews of his work, you get the impression he is on the way to somewhere extraordinary. The whole ninety minute set was seamlessly mixed and full of choice tracks. The highlight for me, and probably the majority of the crowd was the rewind of his 2002 release ‘Fallin’. Priceless!

Robyn Chaos is an attactive girl, and you certainly wouldn’t pick her musical bend if you passed her in the street. The sista knows her tracks and style, and hers made a good match to fellow Brit Raiden’s chosen material! She performed a tight set, with a bootful of badass beats. Her technique was well appreciated and certainly not wasted on the die-hard d’n’b fans present.
Pounded by heavy kick drum and synth basslines, it felt like I’d survived a deadly D’n’B battlefield when I finally left the show in the wee hours. Thanks to the Inthemix50 celebrated DJ Patch and the locals for bringing us another memorable night of heavyweight D&B from the UK… and our own streets of Adelaide!
