If you have been partying in Sydney for a while, you may well be aware that every now and then a party is slightly “talked up” on the flyer. Your told to expect mind blowing visuals and a themed party, and generally  it’s a little less then expected but Godspeed Gothica delivered..

Once again the Sydney Superdome, opened it’s doors to the sounds of banging hardcore. Matrix was kicking things off in the main arena and the stage was decked out in the gothic theme. A whole lot of effort had been put into bringing this together, on one side of the Dj was a huge coffin with candles and the other a massive skull and what looked like a cauldron. It really added that something that seemed to be missing lately.

A quick walk around the venue and my eye was drawn to this flickering light, the second room where Dj Duckie was up mixing some well received happy hardcore, had actually had a bit of attention shown to the production. Something that is occasionally overlooked in many events, the main room may be amazing but often the other smaller rooms are little behind. With a huge neon star and lights that looked like flames on either end once again the theme was set and the crystal clear sound with it’s spine tingling bass certainly made this room a little special.

K Complex was getting started in the main room, although the crowd was not quite there as yet the energy and vibe during his set was off the scale. He really got the crowd into it, a true performer. With awesome tracks like “Scarlett Belle” the man had us enthralled for his full hour that went by in what seemed to be 10minutes.

Sharkey, the crazy lad from the Uk was up next. And I think I am in love, well maybe not but it was an awesome set from start to finish. The man is a buzz with energy, that’s what I love about the international acts, when they come out for that short hour 9 times out of 10 they will give it their all. They don’t just mix they play up to the crowd they get you totally engage in what they are doing and it really makes all the difference.

Whilst bending over  to take a break during Dyewitness’s full on hard to the core set I was approached by a security guard telling me to get up as there is no sitting aloud on the dance floor. Which is great. It’s always been a bit of a problem when huge groups of people plonk their butt in the middle of the dance floor but I think they were going a little overboard. Perhaps the sides of the room could have been left for seating of the back, sometimes you need a rest but don’t want to leave the music.

The set of night was by far Dj Paul and Mc Ruffian. The Godfather of hardcore didn’t do a step wrong mixing out some serious anthems like Up Yours and Army Of Hardcore and with the amazing spectacle that is Mc Ruffian as he was dancing on the speakers and totally getting the crowd pumped and in awe of what was happening, this set will stay forever in my mind. Seeing Paul last year was completely different, there was so much more energy and the tracks, oh the tracks!

All this inline with the wicked huge full colour laser that went in waves with the breakdowns and would have sent any raver into a hypnotic trip made this night one to remember. One to set the standard of production for events to come.
