Ricochet was a back to basics project for two local rave DJ favourites, Jim Jams and Reazn. The first of hopefully a lot more parties to come, bringing back to the punters what true underground raves are all about. The music was great, the whole event had a great atmosphere and more importantly it was invitation only. Being invitation only was a simple but effective way of keeping it intimate between the real ravers but also keeping it for the most part, out of the hands of any possible troublemakers, which are usually attracted to the larger scaled rave events.

The venue, about twenty minutes from Sydney’s CBD, had a great vibe from within. From the moment you walked through the front gate, to the time you walked out early in the morning, you knew everyone was there to really party and to really enjoy the atmosphere of such an exclusive association within the raving community. Candy, phatties and fluffys were the order of the night as some of the punters felt like Ricochet had time warped back several years to the glorified days of raving in Australia.

The venue played host to two arenas of music. The main room played as much happy hard that you could ever digest and enough hard trance and hardstyle to see you through the weekend and into the next week. While the other area outside, hosted an alternative mix of house/breaks/trance and even more hardstyle. Allowing the punters escape the heat from the main room inside while still enjoying splendid music and catching up with other punters. Everyone welcomed the cool sea breeze, as they sought the chance to catch their breath and head back inside for some more hard and fast action in the main room on a continuous basis.

The production in the main room compared in terms of scale was as good as what you would expect from some of the larger events in Sydney and featured decent size speakers, reasonable bass and a lighting production that supported the intimacy of the event so well. For such a confined area, the sound was very clear. The featured lineup included Chester, Matrix, Suae, Haze, and Midian plus also included the event organisers giving the decks a spin. From the sweet melodies of old school hardcore anthems of Chester and Midian to the new age hardcore of Haze plus the hard trance/hardstyle of Matrix and Suae, the entire lineup proved not to disappoint anyone. More importantly the ravers were ecstatic about an extra set organised by the promoters at the end of the night.

Ricochet was great fun but most importantly it would be great to see if this event sets the standards for more of these series of events to follow.
