ANOT (A Night of Trance) had it’s first session back for 2006 on Friday and was host for the CD launch of trance duo Karvan n Condivi. I wasn’t sure what to expect, I knew great trance would fill my ears, but what of the crowd, what of the production?

Things started off slowly and at 10:00 – 11.00pm, Selby didn’t have much of a crowd to play to which was a shame. I love old school uplifting trance, and there is nothing better than warming up to tracks you know and love. Karvan n Condivi had a small but zealous audience yet still the floor was flat. Enter Diggs and Stama at 12.00am, I loved the tracks they played but really wasn’t ready for the dreamy feel, I wanted to dance and just didn’t get into the breakdowns so early in the night. It really took the edge off the room and flattened the vibe.

I was felling a little ho-hum until Ruby took the floor – hallelujah! I found what I was looking for. Enter Marishka vs Jayde and I couldn’t have stopped myself from moving if I wanted to - damn they are good. There is something to be said about the DJs enjoying a set as much as the crowd. Dark Side of the Moon – Dogzilla Pure Filth Remix was an obvious favourite - it made my night complete.

Tempa, the winner of the JAFP DJ Competition, and runner up DJ Arbor took to the decks next and played out a good solid hard trance set. I am keeping an eye out for these two and want to be there the next time they take to the decks. From the start the lasers were amazing, the sound was fantastic, the smoke was a little full on - but you get that on the big jobs. The crowd, which grew over the night, was friendly with no attitude as everyone was there for trance in all its varietys… we all got what we wanted!

The first ANOT of the year was an uplifting night with solid production. I cannot wait for the next one!
