It was great getting to the Greenwood Hotel on Sunday and knowing the weather had been very kind for such a great afternoon of music to unfold. Sounds on Sunday is still the only complete package for Sunday afternoons that delivers a great venue, a great array of music styles and a friendly crowd that act as if Mondays back at work/uni don’t exist.
In the courtyard Jonathan Wall was smoothing over the crowd with a mixture of soulful but also funky beats. The perfect music to sit back and catch up with friends, but it was also great music to bust out a groove to on the pavers. It was Jon’s personal touch on the classic ‘Betty Davis Eyes’ that saw the punters really taking to the pavement. Tiga’s hit ‘You Gonna Want Me’ was a fine addition to Jon’s tracklist as well.
A quick peak into the chapel saw my first glimpse of Matt Rowan in action in Sydney. Sure it was smooth, sure it was well structured, but was it what the crowd wanted to hear? A brief suggestion was made to see if he could make it a little bit more happening by adding a little ‘kick’ back in the music. The difference saw a near empty dance floor turn into punters cramming into the chapel to get their trance fix for the early part of the evening.
A quick trip to the cocktail bar to grab another beverage saw The Goons playing out tasteful groovy music again allowing the early punters to relax and rewind, especially if they were still struggling to recover from the night before. It was then a loud cheer from outside in the Courtyard that signaled the start of an epic 2 hours of Dirty Laundry. The highlight for the weekend and they didn’t fail to impress. Something about live acts tend to get the crowd even more involved in the music. It’s like a concert atmosphere by adding that live vocal dimension to the outfit. As the crowd relished in the funky beats, the night sky grew darker and the Greenwood Hotel was close to full capacity.
pH spun some great tunes on the brisk trips ventured into the cocktail bar, before The Jackal, MC Losty and crew showed why Sounds on Sunday is the complete music lover’s package. Bexta took the hard dance lovers in the chapel on another of her amazing musical journeys, then afterwards it was John Ferris who played his crazy acid trance, testing the musical boundaries to finish the night off in the chapel. Again with the punters screaming one more like they never wanted the night to finish.
Shamus and crew then finished another Sunday night off in the Courtyard with some really feel good music. Bob Sinclar’s ‘Love Generation’, TV Rock’s ‘Flaunt it’ and a couple of other hits finished the night off in style. What an afternoon!
