“It’s gonna be alright, tonight…” the soaring warm piano tones of “Red Carpet – Alright” rang through the grateful crowd. The unique and respectful vibe of Kink was in full effect as I made my way to the front.
Shamus could easily have been headlining the night as the comfortably crowded clubbers showed their love. He kept it uplifting and vocal, while craftily holding back on the cheese. It felt great as I moved to the music and tuned into the frequency. Looking around, I realised that everyone else is just as excited about the night ahead, with the chance to let their hair down to one of Kink’s favourite recurring guests. Smiles abound as guys and gals dance alone, in pairs, and in groups.
Moving up to the front, I spent about 30 seconds in the VIP area only to realise that I was missing out on the real fun on the main floor! As 1am approached and the floor filled, DJ Falcon, producer of the club classic “So Much Love to Give”, humbly approached the decks. The colourful video effects danced and spun on the giant screen above the DJ box as the scruffy-haired Falcon launched into full flight with Daft Punk’s “Revolution 909”, followed by ”Technologic” punctuating the beginning of a punchy and unique electro-house set.
Electro can easily become unimaginative, but thankfully Falcon injected some playful personality into his set, moving from the grungey “Fischerspooner – Emerge” to the anthemic “So Much Love to Give” and even a dirty mix of “Born Slippy”. The floor was just as full when he began as when his set inevitably drew to a satisfying close, the crowd rewarding Falcon with roars and applause of genuine appreciation.
It was a thoroughly satisfying evening of quality music with the kind of decadent crowd only Kink can conjure. When will Falcon be back?!
