Having started the night searching for a pier that our cab driver swore to us didn’t exist, we were pleased to find several hundred people gathering around St Katherine’s Dock waiting for the arrival of the five star, silver sturgeon. After a seamless boarding process (thanks to ITM!) Nick Thayer welcomed party revellers, warming them up with, amongst other tracks, a bit of funky hip-hop courtesy of Jurassic 5.

Following on from his blinding set, Clive Morely and Ladykilla from the Platform 12 crew, the hosts of the evening, dropped some old favs and whipped the already up for it crowd into such a frenzy, that in the words of Ed (the sound guy) “we have created our own micro climate” with condensation dripping off the front windows. Meanwhile at the other end of the boat in room 2 the antipodean contingent were gathering in excited anticipation for Kid Kenobi and MC Shureshock, with southern hemisphere fans making up around 75% of the party goers.

As expected it was another fabulous set from the kid, rocking the boat along the Thames as he spun Pendulum’s ‘Fasten Your Seatbelt’. Despite several brief power cuts the energy of the crowd remained electric, with this intimate venue being the perfect setting for yet another night of boat rocking breakbeats and Shureshock’s work on the mic. But, the party continued to get even more out of control in the steamy front room, with Krafty Kuts ripping it up for all to enjoy.

He was a real crowd pleaser, and when he played a remix of Rage Against The Machine’s ‘Killing In The Name’ he took the crowd back to their mid-nineties, alternative roots with everyone screaming out, ‘fuck you, I wont do what you tell me!’ If there had been lighters, the roof would have been on fire. Krufty Kuts’ set brought the boat into dock, but the party wasn’t over yet! We made our way inland to the Rythym Factory in vibrant East London with all the DJs again ripping it up at the after party.

The super friendly uninhibited crowd proved that there is much fun to be had on the Thames, and it all contributed to the success of Platform 12’s second birthday bash. A big thanks should go out to Clive Morely, Ladykilla and the rest of the Platform 12 crew, it was an absolutely awesome night and we can’t wait for the next boat party and for more Aussie DJs to bring UK parties to life with the down under vibe!
