Quality sounds at one of the best party venues in London – what better way to start a weekend?

The Key was packed by 12 o’clock with people jostling for space on the flashing dance floor. First up was Janette Slack who did a fine job of warming up the crowd, setting the tone with her boisterous house and breakbeat fusion. It was good to see a number of friendly DSI faces leading the charge up the front.

The Scratch Perverts came next and absolutely rocked out for a solid two hours, mixing up rock, r&b, hip hop and breaks, seamlessly blending track after track. Their explosive sound kept the crowd literally jumping – there were absolutely no bums on seats during their set! At this point the out-of-this-world sound system must also receive a mention, so kudos to the sound guys.

The Perverts can always be counted on to read the crowd and respond with tunes that leave everyone wanting more, and this they did and then some. The atmosphere was truly electric and nobody wanted the set to end – especially once they took the frenzied crowd up a notch with their smashing drum and bass! It was obvious they hit the spot judging by the throng of smiling faces – thanks to all those Aussies rocking hard!

Clive Morely, one half of the evening’s host Platform 12, took to the decks following the Scratch Perverts and delivered his customary hands-in-the-air “electro live-sounding guitars and bass-driven funk” sound. Even though the kids in the crowd hadn’t stopped moving for 5 hours, the pulsating sound system and Clive’s experimental beats (including one track he had knocked up that very afternoon) kept the vibe sky high.

Then it was time for General Midi to saunter in. He took the roof off with his first track and kept rolling out the big ones. His set had a slightly dub influenced sound, again filling a huge void in the London club scene. The crowd responded with renewed energy and kept dancing right through until it was time for Ladykilla to close the evening. She delivered a mix of fat electro beats, for which he is becoming very well known.  It was apparent no one was ready to go home when he finished – surely the best testament to a perfectly hosted evening?

Having recently become Platform 12 devotees all we can say is they provide one of the best breaks nights in London. Platform 12 events should definitely be on the “must do” list for any antipodean partygoer in London!

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
