Ahhhhhhh, the Sunday night of a long weekend. There is always some sort of trashy, more tired than usual fun involved. On this particular occasion, I found myself at the CV lounge in Bondi celebrating the colors of life in fun filled psychedelic land.

I will be the first to admit, I did not have then energy that I did 24 hours before when I began the shenanigans of the Easter weekend, but that was evaporated as I crawled down the stairs and felt the melting pot of movement that was gathered in and around the dance area. After being greeted by extremely friendly door crew, I noticed a moderate though not huge crowd in the immediate space around me. Some lounging around, sipping beer and drinks, some standing around and the rest charging up their bodies and the dance floor for the craze that was inevitably to follow.

To be perfectly honest I am not overly familiar with many or all of the artists and acts that fall under the psy banner so I apologise in advance for the limited understanding and illustration of what I felt and experienced in regards to the music and particular tracks. I thought that Bionic Empire held a really good energy and were infectious with their own vibes and expression of their music, an intelligent set that got the people dancing and the faces smiling from the outset.

There was a really warm familiar feeling in the surroundings that I was in. Although I didn’t know anyone in particular the array of color both in the settings and in the eyes of people were more than enough to create a hedonistic comfort. The computer chips hanging from the ceiling and the décor were only surpassed by the artistic cloaks and masks of party goers, the tracing movements of their dance and their journey into the depths of forever.

Tetrameth in “the darkroom” as my mind dubbed it, quite simply had his own frequency happening. The energy in there is difficult to describe, sort of like atoms being formed together to form weird compounds. Like backstroking in thick chocolate, whilst getting your body licked by a mischievous puppy…well sort of. It was just really fresh, darkly progressive and at times incredibly intense. By this stage Raptor has seized control of the CDJs and took not time in eliminating the remaining cobwebs of tiredness that lurched hidden in my body. The few time that I have been lucky enough to experience Raptor behind the decks, it has always been a set filled with the right tracks, positive mixing and the perfect trip for where we are intended to be heading (mind the metaphoric puns). On Sunday, provided was energy, packed and set with little time to even breathe, and Tsuyoshi Suzuki was given the perfect platform to do this thing.

London based, Tokyo born Tsuyoshi Suzuki is eccentric, stylish and demands an air of composure, tranquility and poise when channeling through the turntables. This rye smiled, gently moving dj is a contradiction from what he creates thorough his music and how he himself expresses it. At most, we see a slight shuffle, a hand movement, whilst meters away punters are reaching unseen ethers, glimpses of pure light and the building blocks of a better tomorrow.

His set is filled with energy, stomping, relentless and programmed to computerized-like perfection. His mixing is simple yet so spot on, not once does he manage to loose the floor or stray wayward from his mission. Fused with punk rock sounds and the driving core that is the heartbeat of the earth, I have a slight moment of meditation. I close my eyes and just listen. Somehow I feel like I never want to wake up, his trance is strong, I don’t think anyone wants to leave when the lights come on. Everything must come to an end though, some are just harder to accept than others.

Until next time.
