Woah time goes fast… I can’t believe that Interview is up to its 5th party! Walking in to be greeted by the usual friendly faces on the bouncers on the door and the friendly door staff it is always a great way to start a night, one of the things that Interview has going for it is that vibe and it was evident again this night.
Tilt is a smallish venue, and when I got there is was pretty full. I really think the sound is awesome at this place, it’s pretty loud but not that sort of loudness that leaves you with ear aches the next day. On the decks, Drew K was using this sound perfectly. Playing some real chunky progressive – the dancefloor was loving it. Sorry I can’t id any of the tracks for you but, some guy called Steve May:P told me Drew was about to play a remix he had just finished that day, and let me tell you it was real wicked! Drew was also going back to back with a large freddo frog that was enjoying the spinning on one of the technics!
The last interview was my first exposure to Virginia Le, and seeing that she was playing again at this one I was real excited. She has this deep, driving, progressive, minimal type sound that really does it for me. Perfectly suited to a smallish room, although it would be great to hear her in a big room, where the more atmospheric elements of her music would come to light.
Back downstairs, Ben Evans was up. Ben has developed quite a following and the dancefloor reflected this. His set this time had a more tribal feel, but it was unmistakably Ben. If you haven’t already downloaded his set, I suggest you do so because it representative of what he played on this night. Ben finished with one of my all time favourite tracks, Kate Bush vs Infusion – Running Up That Hill, and it sounded wicked on that sound system.
Back upstairs! Andrew Campbell was next up and he continued on the deep driving progressive side of things but with some more proggier trance thrown in for good measure. One notable highlight was Der Dritte Raum – Hale Bopp. An absoulute classic a couple of years back, it went down a real treat!
Back downstairs now. After Ben, DJ Promo was up. If you haven’t heard already, this looney is going to try and break the DJ record for longest set played. He is going to do this in Melbourne, and go for 100 hours! DJ Promo continued on Ben’s tribal tip, upping the ante a bit for the crowd. It was a quality set, and it should be real interesting to see what he digs up for his marathon set in a couple of months. Tilt was still going strong when I decided it was time to leave. Alas too many vodkas had got the better of me… Can’t wait till the next one!
