A timeless tune is a tune that stands the test of time. The Blue Angels party was designed to showcase sounds of 92-98 across all genres and brought out a lot of old and new faces. This also was used as well as a film shoot for a short film production by the same name. In addition, the night welcomed back one of the originators of the Canberra scene DJ Rodger Ramjet. From Smile club nights to infamous Heaven Art School parties with Jon Wicks, this night was all about the classics.

The first course was delivered courtesy of the first DJ of the night, Mr Brown, who seemingly did a great warm up and just finished up when I entered the Holy Grail around 10 o’clock. Next up was Adam Wesley who played a whole slather of records from 94-98 including DJ HMC’s classic “Phreakin” to the breakbeat anthem “Start The Commotion” by the Wiseguys.

Marty Faux then took the reign and pumped up the jacking club house. I personally was not feeling his set but most of the party people lapped it up. I guess it really shows how much dance music had changed over years. He also mixed up some breaks tunes towards the end of his set which had people up and dancing.

By the time that Rodger Ramjet came on, he was primed to go through classic italo house and early 92-96 trance. This for me was great as I’ve alway liked revivalist sets and themed parties like “Belfast” in Melbourne and “Athems” in Adelaide. Without a doubt, the highlight of his set was when he played “Age of Love”  the Jam and Spoon remix which is still a classic track by even today’s standards. He kept up the classic grooves for the next 3 hours until he closed with “Pacific” by 808 State.

All in all a great night was had and I cant wait to see film footage which was compiled on the night. The only negative  was the the Holy Grail’s in house sound system which did not hold up. But despite this, the event still proved that great music is timeless and never shows it age.
