Arriving with about 20 mins to spare until Modeselektor came on I made my way through the packed, hot smokey room to checkout Toupee. Fukdupp and fantastic as ever!Anticipation hung in the air as the mostly black clad crowd milled around the dancefloor.

Suddenly a groovy introduction amidst some breakcore noize: “ladies and gentlemen, it is my privilege to introduce to you to one cool chick, a real player in the bird scene, he rules the roost wherever he goes… gambler, lover…etc etc…

“And so the onslaught begins…”  From the moment this duo hit the stage you knew you were in for something special. The vibe of connectivity between Gernot & Sebastian shone thru making for an entertaining gig, both on the audio and visual front. Heads bopping up and down in unison, raising their beers to the crowd in acknowledgement these two danced the set away with their eager crowd. Forget trying to generalize their sound, words like funky, broken, fukdupp european madness come to mind tho.:)

One minute you’re lulled into a false sense of fat electro security only to be thrust ever so smoothly into some kind of breakcore headtwist followed by a ragga groove. Just when it’s rockin out during ‘Kill Bill Vol.4’, a fav off the Hello Mom album, a power out :/ Not once, but twice.

Needless to say this put a dampner on the show. The third power out shortly after didn’t help matters either… I felt there was some confusion amongst the crowd as to whether the gig had just ended abruptly or wtf was going on.

Anyway, powerouts aside, this was a fantastic gig, something different for a change and highly recommended if you can get yourself along to one of their shows on this tour, USA and Europe up next I do believe.

Oh, and make sure to grab a helium filled Modeselektor balloon as a momento, I did!

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
