“Hi Scott, how you going?”

“Alright, yeah.”

“Welcome back to Adelaide… have you been back to Oz since Enchanted?”

“Yeah, I was in Sydney recently, good fun… but I dont come very often.”

“Whys that?”

“If you visit the same places too often, people stop coming to see you Sydney was fun… Enchanted was awesome, had a great time”

I commented that it was an odd time of the year to be here, cold as well.

“Not from where I come from I was in Christchurch recently. That was cold, like home, but its been really nice here the last few days… lots of sunshine.”

Its been a luxury to have seen Scott bashing it out to huge festival crowds in the Northern Hemisphere, and just as great to have a chat over the bar in little old Adelaide. Part of me was eager to ask what he was going to play to a small crowd, but I patiently waited for the surprise.

The flyer had the night billed as “an intimate evening of trance.” Announcing that “Bond is back” and with free entry before eleven, this was the deal of the year for my tastes!

Well, enough turned out on Thursday night to see Scott play a Gatecrasher style set at Tonic. An upside to seeing a DJ play in the smaller club is the opportunity to actually watch his mixing style, while dancing about one metre away. Scott kicked in at 1am and had a small but keen gathering, whod been there all night in anxious anticipation. The Tonic room was set up well, and an ideal size for a special atmosphere.

If you know many of the Gatecrasher mix CDs, and like them, then you plainly had to be there on Thursday night. Scott was enjoying himself mixing up a batch of quality tracks, one after another, building his rhythm. Playing for a couple of hours, there was time enough for a proper “journey style” Trance set. He kicked it along with a tidy start that worked a mix of tight basslines, plenty of mid-level rhythm, and a few tingling vocals. It was all great to dance to and in a short time had us all really feeling it. Good Trance nights have a certain structure… knowing when and how to drop a big track is a definite skill. Reading the crowd, feeling good about the music, enjoying the mix… its all part of the experience. After about an hour of driving tunes, Scott dropped his first hands-in-the-air track and the crowd responded. It was a classic Gatecrasher experience, long buildups, tight mixes, spot on timing; and while everyone was amped, hed drop in a big one. Scott was messing about with buttons, twisting controllers, rolling the night along, punching in track after track, and leading by example… having a ball.

The two hours went down a treat and the crowd loved it. Scott happily chatted with anyone who said hello and generally came across as a diamond geezer. The night was exactly what it promised to be. Its safe to say that Scott has made many new friends in Adelaide. Thanks for dropping by mate… it was great to see you play again and make sure you come back!

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
