I had been meaning to get down to Tickled Pink ever since they started, just as always there was some reason that i couldnt go. This time the stars were aligned. Having moved just down the road from me, the girls from Tickled Pink were going to celebrate their first birthday, no mean feat these days, in a time when punters are as fickle and have as much choice as ever.

As if you needed anymore of an excuse to go to tickled pink, this month their ‘flavour of the month’ was Mike Callandar. Mike is no stranger to the Melbourne club circuit having been around for a few years now and plays a regular gig at Honkytonks. I last saw him at the Digital party at easter time when he warmed up real well for DJ T and Joris Voorn, so i was well looking forward to seeing him again.

Tickled Pink is made up of 3 girls, Miss Chris, Danni B and Sass. When i walked into Circus and first up on the decks was Miss Chris. The sound was funky and fresh. I guess you would call it progressive house. The vibe she was creating was fun, and a real perfect warmup for the rest of the night. The smallish dancefloor was already busy and they were enjoying it for good reason.

No sooner had she started, i noticed that Danni B had taken over. Lifting the tempo in a techier sort of way, which was great for Mike Callander who was up next. By now the place was almost full, yet there was still room to dance and walk about.

At this point i would just like to mention the venue. Cirus is a smallish place and some of you may have been there when it was called Rouge. The layout has changed slighty and i think for the better with the dancefloor moved from the entry to the back of the club. The sound was good, and all the staff there, from the bouncers, to the door guys and bar staff was most friendly and always smiling and helpful. Makes such a difference when this is the case.

It was now time for Mike Callander to start playing. He played a more minimal techno / electro type set, but it was still funky as and kept the dancefloor moving.

I so wanted to stay and see Sass close the place, but the world cup beckoned.

I am so glad that i went to Tickled Pink, it’s full of all the good flavours that make a great night, the people, crowd, music and venue. Having taken so long to go to one, i know that i will be becoming a regular now!

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
