Interviews are crazy little parties as they are. When they promise to go oldskool…you know you are in for a ripper. This interview was also featuring guests Gavin Keitel, Honeysmack and DJ Promo, some of the ‘elder statesmen’ oh the Melbourne scene, you knew they would add something more.

When I arrived I was quite surprised that Tilt was still slightly empty, however this was to change real quickly! First up downstairs was XavierF. Playing a real jacking style of house / prog, which was really good, mixing was tight and track selection was great. The highlight was finishing with a breaks remix of one of everyone’s favourites, Lamb – Gorecki.

Upstairs was opened, once the place was deemed full enough and first up was Drew K. I must admit, even though it was early this was probably my favourite set of the night. There was some wicked progressive tunes and also one of my all time favourites Minimilistix – Stuggle For Pleasure. The tunes that Drew was playing were from the area in which I though prog was at its peak.

Next up was birthday girl and interview resident Viginia Lee, she was playing a versus set with Gavin Keitel, lucky girl! Judging by crowd reaction this was the set of the night. Tune after tune of massive tracks. That sort of early prog trance that Sasha and Digweed made big all those years ago. There was not one flat spot in the set and the dancefloor was crammed and everyone had massive smiles on their faces.

After these guys, Julien Reynolds was up. An ex-bass station resident but now playing a housier style, he dusted of the old classics for this event! It was a really rocking set that fit so well with the night, yet it was totally different to everyone else’s sets. Highlight for me was a remix of Billy – Cause We Want T, one of the best remixes of an awful song there is.

Venturing downstairs, Honeysmack was on the decks. I really enjoyed this set, some wicked tunes where played, including Technocratic – Pump Up The Jam. Hard to describe how Honeysmack played, it was a real jacking house / techno sort of set, really cool stuff.

Staying downstairs, I was drawn in by the tunes and tight mixing of Andrew Campbell another interview resident. He played some uplifting trance and by the end of his set had drawn the crowd away from Jules Lees and Ben Evans playing upstairs. Well worth checking out if you get the chance.

As mentioned Jules Lees and Ben Evans was upstairs playing another versus set. Lifting up the pace considerably, this was oldskool trance at its finest! Massive tune after massive tune, there was not point when you could take a break because you knew you would miss something. They finished with the Chemical Brothers – Out Of Control.

At this point I became fixed downstairs, watching one of my faves, Blinky. Paying live as always, the sound is so fresh and he bought the oldskool element by dropping samples over his tracks.

Incredible, as soon as the night had started the night had finished! Another wicked night all-round, great tunes and great people. With some even bigger things to come for the next Interview, I for one can’t wait!

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
