Interview, Andy Moor, some of Melbourne’s finest DJs and the Melbourne weather turned it on for a spring spectacular at Brown Alley.

The guys from Interview must’ve been pinching themselves at the weather that greeted Melbourne punters on Saturday evening. Nothing like the promise of a good International to get people interested, the nothing like a warm evening to draw them from the cozy lounge rooms. No doubt a lot of forum hype and well-placed publicity about the event really help things along as well. Packed out.

Early on the main floor, things were a little bit breaky, stop start and hard (I’m getting old), so I spent some time in the side room listening to Andrew Schultz pumping out some quality prog to get the night started. Man – that red side room was stinking hot, then again the thermostat was probably set for winter and this was definitely a taste for the summer. Some tech difficulties took the shine off a little bit hey, these things happen.

Then was off to see Andy Moor on the main floor and whilst personally I had not heard much of him before the evening, a lot of people had recommended and I doubt anyone went home disappointed. His tune selection, mixing and the vibe created was just astounding – it’s amazing what the right atmosphere can do for track selection, and what track selection can do to build up the atmosphere.

Music wise, it was everything from dirty house, proggy with a tad of electro but it was all smiley. Highlight for me – when he dropped “Air for Life” – crowd went nuts.

Ben Evans who followed on from Andy Moor and just kept on going. His set was a great example of how good the current crop of Melbourne DJ’s is. Some regular faces from a mix of crews, but easily capable of providing quality support for the internationals. Although I missed her set, Virginia Lee let go some great funky prog in the side room.

I don’t think I’ve been as lifted by the music since Ronski Speed last year – was just sweet all night and what a vibe – the Melbourne party people just rock. A really interesting mix who crowded in and just kept the smile’s going.

Crowd support from all the different crews was great – well done to everyone involved who got along their friends to offer support for the night. You know when all the faithful turn up from Unify, Obsession, Interview and Private Function to support you are in for a great night. The fact that they were all still there towards the end of the night indicates the enjoyment continued.

As a side note, Jules Plees and Mike Nichol please played some fantastic tunes later on to close out…. but seriously, Jules really needs to look at his fashion sense (http://www.ellway.com.au/gallery/moor/IMG_9436_01_01_01) and a haircut wouldn’t hurt either. There is a stack of other pictures (real ones) available on Inthemix and at EllWay.

Oh yes, the girls all told me to mention it looked good and they loved the lasers. Chicks.

Overall – I think Interview have really set the standard for what to expect for the 2006/07 clubbing season. They have parties coming up in October and for anyone looking out for a great night, stay tuned. Well done guys.
