Yoji Biomehanika (Yoji)... what can be said about Yoji that hasn’t already been said! For those not in the know, Yoji continually excels as a DJ in any genre. But, preferring to slam out high NRG house and trance, he has won awards, made top DJ lists, topped dance charts and produced and published top selling dance albums. Despite all this, merely describing him as an awesome DJ does not do him justice. He is, in fact, an awesome showman, adding a little spectacle to each of his sets. Generally, he makes himself up with wild hairstyles, makeup designs, costumes, and various props, so it adds that bit extra to anyone expecting to see another awesome DJ.

Held at Brisbane’s premier dance nightclub, Family, little has to be said about the quality of the lighting, multimedia show, sound system and décor. It’s still fresh, original and always a pleasure to review events here. I’d like to pat the back of the Family management though, the staff were particularly helpful and friendly on the night, and I even noticed an increase in the number of bar staff, as opposed to other clubs keeping on the same amount of staff during big nights. Well Done to management!

Missing the supports due to a late shift at work, I was a little annoyed at myself, but I’d caught sets from Derb and Baker before and neither disappoint. They definitely had the dance floor ready for Yoji! I felt amped and ready to go when Yoji hit the decks. The dance floor stayed packed full of high energy for the entirety of the set, and I think I raised the energy bar within myself for the set, it was truly awesome. Unfortunately Yoji didn’t brandish his normal visual flair, except for a new hairstyle. Although given that the DJ booth is quite difficult to inspect at the Family from the basement floor, he may have just decided to go with a clean-cut look. Maybe he’s just matured, either way his music was slammin, his set was tight, and as I suspected it didn’t disappoint.

I wished Yoji could have played forever, but realising for such a feat to happen I’d probably melt to the dance floor, I instead left Family sore, tired, but with all my senses thoroughly fulfilled.
