Underground, tech, clash, acid house, twisted disco and raw punk… Need I say more? Rouge Rock-R at Moulin Rouge was fighting with its gloves off last Friday night. Utterly raw beats and even rawer tech sounds, this night is definitely for music lovers. Electro house seems to be going out of style now in the overflooded market. Sure it’s good in small batches, but variety, my friends, is the spice of life.

Rocking up just before midnight I had the chance to hear the end of Johnny Rad’s set. He was warming up the crowd so well you’d think he was the main attraction. Coops came on from 12-2 and really got experimental, with awesome tech sounds and down and dirty in your face acid.

At 2am the crowd really packed into this late starting club, and the boys of Telefunken rocked up in full length black robes and hoods (after all, it was Friday the 13th). These guys really know how to get a club moving, and they belted out the tracks on one of the few sound systems in Sydney that do this type of music justice. These guys need to be seen to be believed, so check out one of their up and coming sets.

How was the crowd? Well, it’s the Moulin crowd! As one of Sydney’s best kept secrets, this club attracts all sorts; from glam dolls to punk waifs, and taking one look at the promoter Bex you know you’re in for a hot night! Rouge Rock-R happens every Friday night at Moulin Rouge in Kings Cross.
