It’s a Saturday night and I’m excited to be heading out to see one of my favourite DJs, Tommie Sunshine. Though I tend to avoid Tank, there were various reasons as to why I would attend on this particular night. Of primary concern here is Sunshine. The guy is a genius. I think one of the things I like most is that he looks like he should be rockin’ out with Metallica or thrashing guitars with Fear Factory. Looks can be deceiving though, because this man sure knows how to rock a club with a solid selection of (real) electro, tech and a mash-up of everything in between.

I made my way along the line to get into Tank at about midnight after having had a few bevvies elsewhere to avoid the anguish of burning cash on 40 dollar beers (ok that may be an exaggeration!) Snaking through the scantily clad young lasses and their hair-straightening pretty boy boyfriends I checked out all the facilities. It really had been a while since I graced the old Tank stream. It’s such a nice clubbing venue, and the sound system is clean, loud and punchy. The music upon entry was fairly non-descript, though I wasn’t paying all that much attention. The last time I was at Tank I was listening to Zambarelli mutilate my ears with handbag house and bad tribal thrown together like scrambled eggs in a blender, this time the music was clearly a hell of a lot better than that. The crowd was obviously digging it, as the dancefloor was grooving away quite nicely. We settled into a nice area right in front of the decks and watched the night unfold. In general, people were pretty friendly and not too pushy when zigzagging through the crowd, and to the young lady who replaced my drink – thank you, it was appreciated.

The man himself stepped up in normal costume of long dark hair, dark sunnies and what seemed to be a suit. The last time I saw him was in the Cave at Laundry, and he blew the place apart with massive basslines, twisted sounds and build-ups that would make baby Jesus cry. Although not quite to the same level as this, Tommie played an extremely tight set with plenty of “oh my god this is amazing” moments, and the Onelove crowd really seemed to be getting into it. I couldn’t pick any tunes from memory, but I do remember having a real good boogie. The other DJs of the night were also on point, but not quite to the extent as Tommie. He just knew how to read the crowd and deliver what the wanted, even if they would otherwise have requested “Flaunt it”!

Good times!

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!

Hmm, I wasn't there, but I saw Tommie at Parklife and he rocked! I think he looks more like Jesus than a heavy metal rocker...
