There’s one thing I really love about the Adelaide scene, it’s always dishing up surprises. Firstly, I was happy enough with the news that Petter would even be making his way to Adelaide, then in the weeks leading up when WA’s Kreice was added to the bill, my excitement levels rose again. Nothing could’ve prepared me for hearing the news that Petter would not only be playing live, but also DJ’ing and playing at the after party though. This brought on a case of the dreaded high expectations, however being a Fabric, (whoops) Fibre party, I knew those expectations were held in safe hands.
I arrived around 11ish- in time to catch the back end of HMC’s set. I was a little disappointed to hear I’d missed Rob & Jayde’s set but the lineup for the rest of the night was more than going to make up for that. HMC’s set consisted of his usual blend of techno and house music. I for one have never been a fan of the house stuff he plays, but the brilliance of this techno more then makes up for it. This set was no departure from his usual high standards. He also dropped one of my favourite tunes in Lindstrom’s I Feel Space. By the close of his set, Sugar was still relatively empty due to the various other events running at the same time. I was confident however, that come the important part of the night, the crowd would be there.
Next, it was time for a DJ set from Petter. As soon as his first track dropped, the floor began to fill- despite the club still being relatively empty. Petter pumped out an awesome hour or so of music, with tracks including Claude Von Strokes’ Beware of the Bird, Thomas Schumacher’s Metro and other assorted tech house tunes. It was a perfect set for the relatively early time he was on and this wet my appetite perfectly for his upcoming live set.
It was now time for Kreice. Now, I’ve heard numerous Kreice productions and have heard lots about him, but I still was very unsure what to expect. I’m very happy to say, he blew me away. A flawless ninety minutes of techy flavored house music, very much in the same mould as James Zabiela (minus the over the top tricks). The only track I can recall is a James Zabiela bootleg of Erotic Discourse which went down nicely. As his set neared a close, Sugar was definitely starting to fill up, which was great news as Petter was about to begin his much anticipated live set.
Petter began to a now full dance floor with his brilliant and extremely underrated remix of Sebastian Ingrosso’s Walk n Talk Acid. This set the tone for the rest of the hour, with Petter pulling out one of the best live/ableton sets I have seen, with the dance floor remaining packed for the entirety. He closed with the brilliant Some Kind of Polyphony to a rousing response.
Overall, it was a great night and a great weekend, and everything continued after this over at Cherry Bomb where Petter put in another cracker of a DJ set. Sadly, I don’t have time for that one here. Another great Fibre night, as they always are.
