Rocking up to DNBBQ we could tell that we were in for some ridiculous times, and we were not disappointed. The place was electric when we walked in, with so many happy faces – both friends and friends-to-be – and as usual the vibe was fun and friendly. DNBBQ always seems to attract such an eclectic mix of people who all get on like a house on fire and make these events such a pleasure to attend.

The bbq ran out of food before we got there unfortunately – hungry punters all round! And tickets were sold out – the line in was held up for quite some time because it had reached capacity, and boy it showed. The garden was a crazy mix of people chatting, drinking, dancing on tables, and general debauchery, much that seemed to come from the $6.50 Jaeger bombs! Inside was hot, sweaty, dirty and delicious with heavy beats thumping through the bar – thanks to the Hijak sound system that was working to perfection. Ventilation is not a priority for the Abercrombie – but could definitely do with a bit of a look in because the roof was dripping at one stage!

The Caca, playing in the garden, killed it with their infectious blend of electro, rock, dnb and breaks. It was so awesome to have a live band rip up some delicious beats and guitar riffs and be able to appreciate live electronic music as opposed to a usual DJ set. I really enjoyed the set and the people with me did too – I could tell from the silly grins on their faces! Mark N played a hard and dark set, and being relatively new to the dnb scene it was a bit too much for me, but the crowd seemed to get into it and the same people were there from start to finish. I am told that Mark N has quite a following and that was apparent by the mass of punters getting into his heavy beats. I also caught DJ Seltay who played his usual jump-up dancefloor smashing style set. Thoroughly enjoyable.

All in all, DNBBQ is one event where you are sure to have an absolute ball and meet some amazing friendly people and hear some great tunes by those you know and those you don’t. Mainstream clubbing in Sydney could do with a bit more of the dnb crowd attitude – respect, friendliness and appreciation. But maybe that’s what makes these events so successful – they are like a secret crew of music lovers and appreciative types who welcome new people in but don’t give up their event to the masses. Well done on yet another successful event guys – looking forward to the next one!

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
