I’d been to Push once before, and it was good. So i decided to go again. Only this time it promised more omph! Billed as the ITM Contributer and Forum members meetup, the afternoon promised much.
I got there at about 3pm and was feeling pretty ginger after seeing Steve Bug the night before, I took my place amongst some itmers I had gotten to know pretty well over the last year or so. Present at the time was, Drexciyan, Scootie, Ralph Wiggum, Trina and Swish Fish. If anyone has been to White Bar before, they know about the little seated area next to the window overlooking Fitzroy St.
Let the people watching begin! It was all too easy to sit there and have a good look ‘down’ at all the passers by! This provided quite a lot of entertainment throughout the afternoon. I even heard there was a fight out the front after I left, maybe Fi can fill you in on that later.
Upon arrival I caught the last hour of Nevin’s set. How would you describe it…it was good, no doubt about that, proggy, trancey, techy…along those lines. They had some technical issues with the sound but that was resolved fast and from my point of view, didn’t provide any other problems throughout the rest of the day.
The place was starting to fill out from this point, Push is a pretty big place so it was never crowded, which was good cause it was a pretty warm day. Next up was Ben Evans. Ben played a similar sound to Nevin. It was a combination of prog and trance. The set had really good progression, building up as the set went on.
Many a smirnoff was being drunk at this point and it was about the time that Nevin bought out the toilet brush! Anyone that read the thread about this meetup knows how quickly it degenerated into toilet humor (bad joke). All this was capture on camera as only Scootie and Ralph know how!
Other itmers that had come along, were Vanburrenisgod, Bluesteel, Becy, Drew K, Soups1982 and Flaming V, Throbmeister & Sweaty Beats. I also met Analogue Feedback. After Ben, it was one of my favourite DJs – Gavin Keitel. I love what Keitel plays. I guess you would call it progesque German house, whatever it is I love it. Perfect music for a Sunday afternoon.
As Gavin was nearing the end of his set, Fi Fi Lamour arrived and unfortunately for me, I had to leave. Nothing to do with Fi Fi of course, but a family birthday beckoned. So fittingly, I will hand over to Fi Fi and she will carry on the review.
Well I arrived about 2 hours later than I expected due to laying down on my bed for just one second and…....zzzzzzz.
I’d also had a pretty big night at Bug; which had left me with half a voice and a quarter of a brain, and I was very grateful for the complimentary Smirnoff blacks which kickstarted me back into the world of the living. Leaning on trashy for both moral support and to stop me from falling over, I pretty much stayed in the one spot all afternoon & night; but like trashy said, its a pretty good spot to be stationed in. There were 2 scenic attractions out on Fitzroy Street which caught everyone’s attention – the bath robe G string streaker, and the rumble outside George Wine Room, but in White Bar, the vibe was happy & relaxed.
Although I arrived late and missed out on a name tag – I was expecting a little more inter-mingling between ITMers. Next meet-up, I’d be happy to offer my services as hostess and ensure that people were meeting new faces as well as catching up with familiar ones.
Elektra kicked off at 6.30 and as per usual delivered perfect party music. Hers was a blend of house, minimal, techno, fantastic Sunday afternoon music basically ! If I wasn’t so happily slumped on a poof, (i.e. a piece of white bar’s furniture) I would have been up and rallying the dancefloor troops.
White Bar is an outstanding venue for a Sunday catch up I think, and props to Nevin for consistently delivering a quality event which I now readily look forward to every month. Unlike Trashy however, I continued to notice problems with the sound and hope that management at white bar sort this out so that Push is happy to continue its Sunday residency in my neighbourhood.
A fantastic afternoon & I look forward to many more over summer.
