Everyone loves a good birthday party, and Dirty Funken Beats turning one was very well loved. A regular institution at Dragonfly, this party seems to pull hot boys and even hotter girls like no other party. It also has consistently good line-ups and free drinks before 11pm. It’s not hard to work out why it’s so popular then? Everyone loves a free drink – this has been proven as fact! Everyone also loves having their photo taken, so the fact that there were about 4 snap happy photographers there also helped things.

Lines snaked down the street and it seemed that if kids weren’t on the list they weren’t getting in at all. By about 2am the place was at capacity, meaning if you weren’t in there already you weren’t coming in, and if you were, it was all really just beginning. This is the kind of exclusivity that makes some partygoers drool to be there, but it also turns some right off, waiting in line only to be turned away is no one’s idea of fun. The line up of DJs on the night was local, good quality, and above all else, talented. John Glover and Tenzin ripped the place up, and the Stafford Brothers (from just above the border – ie Queensland) also delivered a solid set that had everyone moving, sweating, and going crazy dancing. The music was hot and heavy and kept everyone dancing virtually non-stop. It was dirty, just how I like it!

An update since I last reviewed Dragonfly; the bouncers are still mean, the barstaff are still sort of slow, but everyone is still coming back! Sydney kids love the place, and who am I to say otherwise?
