Are you suffering from a heavy head and memory loss, yet still managing to remember a tune from the previous night and humming it at work, still on an extreme high even though you stayed away from any ‘artificial’ stimulation? Then it’s highly likely you’re suffering from symptoms shown by many patrons who spent the final moments of 2006 at Kink. With yet another year coming to an end, there could not have been a better way to seal the final hours of 2006.

Unlike the countless Sydney events with overly-inflated prices, or spectacular line ups boasting big-name international DJs and live acts, it was business as usual for the organisers of Kink who felt that keeping the door price reasonable and the DJs local was a sure-fire way to deliver an unforgettable night, without compromising or faltering the phenomenal success the club has achieved all year round.

Having made my way down to the Arthouse at 10:30 after viewing a spectacular fireworks on the harbour, it was no surprise to see there was a huge crowd waiting to make it presence felt within the venue. It was disappointing to find out that not all levels of the Arthouse were open as the attic was closed for the night, even though tickets to the event were again fully sold out according to the ITM ticketing page, to the dismay of many last-minute hopefuls. With only moments till the New Year, clubbers really began to wear out the dance floor, with local DJs performing with back-to-back sets and cranking out some chart toppers from the year.

Although I missed the midnight fireworks because I was inside the Arthouse when the clock ticked over, the sight of confetti raining down over the crowd marked the initiation of the New Year. The highlight would have had to have been when the Bang Gang posse got behind the decks and really flaunted with the crowd in the main room. Around 3am the crowd really seemed to be fading away into the wake of the New Year, and it was time this newbie called it a night for his first review of the year.

Having gone to work the next day with a heavy head, and showing all the symptoms mentioned above, it was clear to me that Kink had again succeeded in providing another huge and successful night. As I pushed through my long working day, massive tunes such as TV Rock’s Flaunt It and Sneaky Sound Systems Pictures continued to drone away in my head.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year!
