The night started off as your typical evening at Candy’s with Tal, the ‘friendly promoter’, greeting guests at the door. The massive-sized dance floor was set in its usual style of thirty four ‘shiny disco balls’, a raised DJ platform and bright lighting that comprises of multi coloured/multi shaped lights that spin and spiral in all types of directions, giving the club that particular unique style that you wont find anywhere else.

Mr Jeremy Vine (resident DJ at Candy’s) was kicking off the night with some easy going/steady beats, a good way to get the crowd eased in to the evening. However, Vine got stuck with the short stick for the night. The club just did not get crowded enough while he was behind the decks and people were not getting pumped enough to hit the dancefloor with the slower tracks being played. In Jeremy’s own defense though, he said, “I normally play at peak time, so tonight I pulled it back a lot knowing that Tom Neville and Dynamix would be playing, but it was awesome to be playing on the same night as those two”. For those of you who have seen Jeremy play before, then you will know he can pull off a pretty funky set.

Meanwhile in the back room, DJ Pride and Reno both struggled to hold an audience on a dancefloor that only reached probably a max of six people at any one time. Once Shaan hit the decks with DJ LA (Thrustin) and started pumping out a few sweet mixes like Bass Kleph’s Be Your Girl, then a few more people started hanging around the room. But even then the room did not even reach half of its capacity.

The moment then came that everyone had been waiting for and Tom Neville stepped up to the turntables, welcomed with applause and cheers and a nice wrap from his UK friend Adam Coverdale, who also gave the ladies a little reminder that Tom is expected to become a father (congrats to the man). The set started off a little slow with Mr Neville standing up the front looking a little confused as to the layouts of the decks. It didn’t take long though for him to work things out and it was apparent that this man truly is a genius at mixing songs in such away so that they just blend into each other. As one person commented, “It’s like you don’t even know when he’s mixing, he’s that good at what he does. It’s like he’s using a synthesizer and creating something original.” His two biggest crowd pleasers without a doubt was his own remix to his own song Just Fuck and Dave Spoon’s At Night, which both got the crowd hyped up. But overall Neville’s performance seemed to struggle. He’s a DJ that plays the dangerous game of leaving out the commercial mixes, and during his performance it was starting to show that people were getting frustrated with hearing music that they did not already know, and as time went on the dance floor became less crowded.

It was DJ Teez (*Toi* and Meez, also resident DJs of Candy’s) who stole the set and night and they did it all with a maxed out crowd in the backroom by absolutely thrashing out some massive beats with a mix of dirty, electro and break beats that was pumped up with an awesome variety of commercial favourites. From Blow Your Speakers, Put Your Hands Up, I Play My Music Loud and much, much more. Teez has a knack for taking the favourites and slamming them in a mix that makes them seem fresh and original, becoming something funky, crazy and wild. It’s like your hearing your favourites again for the first time and you become entranced by the hype and madness that’s surrounding you as every person is jumping, screaming and dancing in a frenzy with constant smiles on there faces as they try to comprehend the overwhelming ecstasy they’re in. The best part is that Teez are lovin it and joining in just as much as you, even Mr Tom Neville came into the back room after his set to watch them play and Teez pulled out their own remixed version of Justin Timberlake’s Sexy Back and to Tom’s own dismay, he said to them, “Did you guys really do that? That was great!” Indeed, an absolute treat to watch this set and guaranteed this much satisfaction every single time, hats off to Teez for yet another spectacular performance.

It was Mark Dynamix who finished off the night in the main room and as to be expected, he had no problems holding the crowd on the dance floor from the time he started at 4am until the time the place closed 6am. Dynamix held the attention of all the true party goers got them fired up straight away with Oliver Huntemann’s 37 Degrees. There was no messing around from Mark, big/long and overdrawn build ups to songs were taken straight out of the equation, it was just a constant mix of solid house and electro that consisted of his own style and slipping in some commercial every now and then to keep the crowd happy. It was exactly what Candy’s needed to finish off the night.

Overall, a slow night that finished off well for those of us who could sustain their energy until the very end.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
