It was this past Sunday that the infamous Grammy Award winning DJ/ Producer combo Roger Sanchez granted Perth a special visit with a promised 4 hour set in Capitol nightclub (and unfortunately pulled a nice Houdini act at the end of it.)

It was a hot Sunday evening and the doors opened around 8pm. I came in around 9pm to the sounds of Adam Kelly. I was very impressed with his energy, he seemed to be jumping around more than the dance floor and having so much fun and it was very contagious. If you have never seen him play make sure you catch him, he has quite a unique way of mixing the songs of now into his own remixes and combining them with older tunes. If you want to catch him in the act, he will be performing at Sapphire and Eurobar in the next two weeks.

Around 10:15, with a loud introduction, Mr Sanchez granted us with his presence in his combo of sleeveless shirt and sunglasses. Unfortunately for Roger it was not the busiest night at Capitol and they had only kept the downstairs area open, which they had trouble filling up. I am not sure it was because of the Sunday night factor, but luckily the crowd that was there was definitely THERE. Most girls were dollied up to the finest accompanied by the leaders of the current metro sexual revolution and pretty much took to the dance floor when Roger came on, if they were not “Ibiza’s” already there. Roger seemed to have a lot of fun and definitely shows his years of experience as he very smoothly twigged through his set.

The S-Man, resident at one of Ibiza’s most visited Monday night’s Release Yourself at Pacha, is originally from New York. New York is still one of his current residency spots as well as Ibiza and Montreal. He is the proud owner of record label Stealth Records and has remixed a huge amount of songs for famous artists like Basement Jaxx and No Doubt’s Hella Good, which won him a Grammy Award in the past. He is also active as a producer of his own singles and albums.. He has been working in the seen since the late 80’s and has obviously done his time- but I don’t think anyone could denies it did not pay off. This man lives and breathes dance music

It was a sweaty night, and unfortunate for the DJ’s that the place had not packed out a little bit more. It was also unfortunate that our headlined decided around 1:30 that he needed to be elsewhere and vacated the stage never to be seen again. I am not sure if he had had enough but either way the crowd did not seem to mind- most people kept dancing till Capitol closed their doors at 2am, roaming the streets with the ever lasting ringing ears.

Sad but true, the S Man finished up at 1am - 1hr earlier than promised - and finished with a track of his own! A bit self indulgent, but was still cool. A good night, even for those of us not really into house!
