Purple shorts and a yellow t-shirt, piercings in all sorts of places, a black dress with a green feather boa. Leopard-print stockings with a pair of Converse All-stars. Where could you all this and more? No, you’re not at Mardi Gras, the Mars Bar or the Elephant and Castle. You’re at the Entertainment Centre witnessing the Scissor Sisters strutting about in all their 70s glam disco glory.

The ‘Sisters were supported by the dance music sensation Sneaky Sound System whose tracks have been rocketing up the charts recently. Their debut album was released last year and they’ve since toured with Robbie Williams, Scissor Sisters and later this month they’re playing the Good Vibrations tour (again). Sneaky Sound System did a fantastic job of hyping up the crowd with their energetic and funky pop sounds. The gorgeous female vocalist Miss Connie wooed the audience with her sultry sounds and matching looks.

The Scissor Sisters’ tour DJ Sammy in his sailor hat continued to work the crowd right up until the strobe lights started flashing. Next, a spotlight shone on the a set of lift doors with the Scissor Sisters’ logo on the front and the anticipation mounted as the lights slowly turned on one by one. Flash! The doors opened and the music blasted into gear. The Sisters had arrived!

You know, when I think of the Scissor Sisters, the first thing that comes to my mind is a whole load of cute chicks wearing nurses uniforms and getting ready to play. Well, I could almost be right about that. The group Scissor Sisters take their name from an apparently well-known lesbian sexual position. If you went to see them last night thinking you were up for a wholesome family night out, you were a long way from the mark.

Scissor Sisters played two shows to packed audiences in Sydney earlier this week. During one of those shows a woman who had brought her children along left the concert and wrote a letter of complaint stating that there was too much swearing during the performance. Ana Matronic, Scissor Sisters’ front woman certainly had something to say about that! “If you think you’re here for a family friendly show, I’m going to let you know now that we’re a bunch of fornicators, muff divers, sodomisers and I’m a loose woman”.

A couple of songs from Ta-Dah (the Sisters’ most recent release) were played first. These provided a great introduction to some of the better-known songs from the group’s self-titled album. Highlights of the show included Tits on the radio introduced as “something you were born sucking on” and Take your Mama. The latter was dedicated to the mothers of rock ‘n’ roll.

After a false finale (which was actually a costume change) the Scissor Sisters’ came back on stage with Jake Shears strutting around the stage in a pair of sparkly stripy tight fitting short shorts and a matching shirt (which didn’t stay on for long). As the sounds of I don’t feel like dancing faded out I was just starting to hang out for my favourite track. Before I knew it the sounds of Filthy/gorgeous were blasting out across the arse-shaking, sing-a-long pit of camp euphoria. The track made for a fine finish to an impressive and memorable night out.

i loved the show...i couldn't help but feel like dancin'! i'm a sydney girl who has moved to adelaide and was soooooo impressed with the audience. Some of the outfits were spectacular to say the least and it was great to be surrounded by alternative people....something which i haven't really experienced before in adelaide....winner show.
