Ever wondered what constitutes the perfect party formula? Just ask the guys at Frantic. They have the answer.

Frantic is a huge name in the hard dance scene in both Sydney and London. Over the years they have built up a loyal following of hard house, trance and dance lovers who plan their summer diaries around their biannual summer boat parties. Through the crew’s combined experience in the music industry, their new, fresh and innovative ideas and their pure passion for the latest and best in this musical genre, the Frantic crew are pure professionals at putting parties together.

Every Monday I enter the working week praying for an aerodynamic, streamlined, fast track to the weekend. As the days pass me by and the weekend gets closer, the anticipation and excitement grows, particularly when I have a Frantic boat party to look forward to!

After a relatively civilized Friday night I awoke on Saturday having had a mediocre sleep. I didn’t catch as many Z’s as I would have liked, however that wasn’t about to deter me or the butterflies in my stomach. Arriving at the Star City Casino wharf in Pyrmont I was greeted by hundreds of revellers all eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Lady Rose, a top class three-deck catamaran, one of the plushest cruisers to grace Sydney Harbour. The air was charged with electricity and huge smiles adorned every face. We all knew that we were about to spend the next six hours in party heaven. Like the Iron Chef we were all ready to WOK ON!

We departed just before 11am and immediately the boat was buzzing with energy. In the Frantic room first up to the decks was Steve Giddio who was mixing up a storm. He selected some excellent uplifting melodic trance, setting the pace for the party ahead. Steve got everyone in the mood and got things chugging along nicely. Next up was Micky D who upped the tempo and cranked out some harder tunage. As with all Frantic parties, punters are guaranteed a superb combination of the classics plus the newer releases and Micky D rose to the challenge magnificently. He progressed into a harder, more energetic set packed full of driving hard trance. The atmosphere on the dance floor was rocking, as was the boat (which plays havoc when you’re trying to do the Melbourne shuffle…).

As I’d spent the first couple of hours on the lower deck as well as admiring the harbour from the front/top of the boat, I made my way to the upper deck to the Catch 23 room. DJ Torbynik was up next and although a relative newcomer to the Sydney dance scene, this is one DJ who knows how to please a crowd. We were in for a treat! Torbynik’s 1.5 hour set was jam-packed with some seriously chunky electro house and he seamlessly built up the pressure, letting rip with some superbly fat, dirty bass lines. He kept the momentum throughout everyone danced their thongs off.

Having had my electro fill I moseyed down to the lower deck to catch a bit of Steve Hill. One of the hard dance masters and always one to impress, Steve mixed a hard trance set and was joined by Technikal, a successful London DJ and producer, who stepped up for a cameo role. I only caught the end of Steve’s set however next up was Brad Thatcher of the London Finger and Big Backyard party fame. He stepped up and played a flawless uplifting hard trance set with thumping bass lines, driving melodies and everyone on the dance floor bounced around like hyperactive Tiggers. Brad is one hard dance DJ/Producer who continues to make his mark on the hard dance scene and pulled it off yet again. Nice work.

Then it was over to a Frantic favourite Yoshi who executed an excellent set, churning out some old favourites like Revolution and Tonight. As the boat docked the party continued to pump and the revellers continued dancing, eager not to miss a single beat. Eventually when everyone had disembarked people dispersed to various locations – my friends and I had a couple of swift pints and games of pool in the Pyrmont Bridge Hotel then cruised to the V-Bar for the Adrenalize after-party where the tunes become a little lighter and trancier but retained the top quality Frantic is known and loved for. A great place to finish up a fabulous day out.

My objective at the start of the day had been to party hard with my friends, meet lots of cool new people, listen to the best hard trance and electro house tunes and have a ball. Mission accomplished.

Thanks Frantic!!!
