After nearly a three month break from the scene the Foreshadows crew have come back to present the first One AM of ’07. Highly anticipated by many of the One AM regulars and myself. Not having missed one of these events since they burst onto the scene, I was eager to see how the new location would go down with the regulars from Platinum Bar and also the loyal fans of Heat nightclub.
It was nice to see that things hadn’t changed too much at the club. Still has a great outside area for chilling on the now added couches, smoking and generally trying to get your hearing back. Inside the club things were freshly painted and tidier and not to forget the all new super duper sound system. Things are looking good.
With a last minute change to the line up I was delighted to see that Gus had been added to the list of Dj’s. Renowned for his fresh selections of hip hop, funk and blending this together with some breaks towards the end of his set, it really did set a tasty mood for what was in store for the rest of the night. Kudos Gus, you nailed it for your debut into One AM.
Next up was Wish and Prizzy. After much discussion with a close colleague, Angelbel, it was decided that its good to see that there are some Dj’s out there that aren’t afraid to pump out some classic tunes. Drummatic Twin’s Feelin’ Kinda Strange? Guaranteed to get any crowd jive bunnying. Risky move but watching the two groove on behind the decks it was obvious the crowd was in store for a treat. Well done guys!
Lights up and mike in hand, MC Mortal Flow introduced the next ‘playa’ – Fine China. Of all the people that played that night I would have to say that he was the most animated of all. It emanated onto the dance floor and drew the crowd in for a closer look. Even though there was some less than usual tunes they still rocked the crowd and the Mortal Realistik’s owned their time on stage. I think a few hearts fluttered when Fine China unleashed the dancer within, very hot.
Last on stage was the ever entertaining Loose Screwz. If there were ever an award for most amusing sets they would win hands down. All three boys just bounce energy off each other at all times. With 3 turntables, 2 CDJ’s and a laptop(Oh yeh, and the duck), they worked all of their individual styles in superbly. Special mention to the guest LS MC during their set, “I don’t think I’ve ever been this drunk when I’ve played before”. All in all a solid effort.
Overall I think the night was a successful comeback. And while the overall atmosphere of the night wasn’t quite the same as their previous night’s this was almost to be expected. What was refreshing to note was the number of new faces in the crowd. It’s very encouraging to see that nights like this are drawing a fresh breed of punters into the scene. Can’t wait to see what the next will bring.
