The first annual Adelaide Fringe Festival started last night with a ripper of a free party in Rundle Street and Rymill park.
Thousands of people were out to see the street performers, to catch entertainers in the Garden of Unearthly Delights and to dance the night away in Rymill Park.
Kid Confucious hit the main stage and the crowd really got into their soulful blend of hiphop and funk. The group has an amazing amount of energy and its great to see some performers with a sense of humour.
Track Team the winners of the Fresh Fringe DJ Spin Off took to the stage in a prime time slot and pulled out all their party tunes for the crowd to groove along to. Track Team are one of Adelaide’s own, you might have seen them play around town as Noodle and The Activist.
Next in line, from the UK was Serge Santiago, with a total change in mood and energy. Santiago’s set consisted of a very European style of minimal electro house. Love to see this guy perform at a big warehouse style party with a wicked laser show.
Unfortunately for us, and the fact that it was a “school night”, we decided to call it a night before midnight so that we could get our car out of the carpark! I’ve since had reports that the rest of the night was a hit, and that Theque and DJ Sveta went off.
Sadly missing from this years Fringe Opening Night was the street parade! Bring it back for next year please!
