Insane Dance Party certainly chose a great place for a bush rave. Moira Park Scout camp is big, certainly big enough for 3 stages, although only two were put up. Dance floor was hard dirt on the left stage (Pirotechnics) with soft sand on the right. I arrived on Saturday afternoon to a really quiet event. The Pirotechnics stage was putting down tracks to an empty floor. I heard from other punters who’d come down the night before that it’d only been the Pirotechnics stage that had been playing and that it’d be really sparse in terms of numbers.

The two stages were set up on either side of the canteen which served as a first aid station. Opposite the canteen was the free accommodation and around the corner from that was a stall of free fruit from the local farmers. When both stages had been set up around 5 pm it was possible to hear two different sets when you were in front of the canteen.

More punters came in as the night went on and the tracks kept coming thick and fast, with mainly a commercial feel to them. As it got colder, fires were set up in the middle of the right stage and in front of the canteen. Lasers were set up on top of the DJ stage facing the crowd and although the stars and the moon were out it was still near pitch black.

More than one punter mentioned the lack of market stalls and food outlets. There was no perceivable amount of a security presence. It was hard to gauge who was a punter and who was just a local who’d just shown up. As the night wore on it became clear that were wasn’t enough punters to run two stages and everyone congregated to the right stage. There was a lack of atmosphere on the dance floor with most people congregating around the various fires that had sprung up just to keep warm. Set times were mixed and none of the punters were informed.

I turned in early in the morning after dancing to some commercial trance. The music got harder around 4 am, with a more psy-trance feel to it. The music continued to play through the night and was still playing when I left on Sunday morning.
