As I was telling people I was heading down to Dragonfly for Dirty Funken Beats I got the same response from everybody: “Get there a bit earlier then you usually would, a big crowd is always expected.” So taking that into account we did head in a bit early, only to be delayed in finding a park. What a challenge, but in the end we found success.

As we made out way into the club and took our place on some of the comfortable chocolate brown lounges, we didn’t hesitate with introducing ourselves to the bar staff, who served our drinks with great service which is hard to come by these days. Slowly but surely the place was packing out, with John Glover first up on the decks and dropping the new Groove Armada tune alongside Dirty South’s Better Day, which got everyone singing along.

We kept the bar staff busy and before you knew it midnight had rolled around. Lucky I wasn’t any kind of Cinderella and needed to leave the party! Brothers Matt & Chris Stafford took their place behind the decks, as this was a special edition of Dirty Funken Beats – they were launching their new Platinum CD in tribute to the club of the same name at Broadbeach, QLD.

Bringing to Sydney a sample of what they do week in week out in Queensland, punters at Dragonfly that night were given the chance to take home a copy of the CD. A remix of Skitzo Dancer had everyone wanting to dance, and as if they needed any more encouragement it was followed by a Monster and Calabria mash. Loved it! All credit goes to the guys who clearly love what they do, as it was clearly demonstrated that night.

La Musique by Riot in Belgium on the speakers made me feel like I was back in Paris, and everyone was singing along or at least trying to. If anyone was making up the words then nobody noticed, as like myself were too busy soaking up the vibe and the surroundings. I was told that the majority of the punters present were the loyal regulars who make the effort to attend Dirty Funken Beats every month, making it the success that it is. A big shout out to the organisers for putting on such a great night!

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
