After many weeks of hiding away and falling out of the loop when it comes to the freshest music being released, it was time to be re-educated on some of the more important lessons in life – I’m talking mainly house, electro, tech and so forth! So it was back to Arthouse for another session of Kink, featuring some of the best DJ lineups that Sydney has to offer on a Saturday night. As my university studies had failed to instruct me on what could be gained from spending a weekend largin’ it in nightclubs, I took it upon myself to get out there and discover for myself that yes, Kink is rocking it hard every Saturday. And with the amount of people who were present last weekend, it appears that all the other uni students who have just wrapped up their semester had the same idea as me. And their enthusiasm certainly wasn’t dampened by the rain either!
The night began with Miss Gaby taking over the main room, followed soon after by Shamus, but the headline act was yet to take stage. So it was with eager anticipation that whispers began to rise in the crowd that a ‘Riot in Belgium’ was about to descend on The Arthouse….
Yep, Riot in Belgium. Man, did these boys kick up a riot with some of the most amazing house and techno beats I’ve ever heard. And it just wouldn’t have been right if the night and passed without the boys playing their own La Musique, to a great response from the crowd naturally. With the crowd shoulder to shoulder on the dance floor with the main room turning into somewhat of a mosh pit, you weren’t left with a choice of whether you wanted to leave and take a rest – the lure of the beats was just too strong!
The night continued and the crowd took full advantage of Kink’s hospitality, and it would be fair to say the rain conditions outside actually added to the vibe of the night. Having snuck into ‘Tek-Funk’ room for a quick listen to Ben Korbel, I wasn’t surprised to find another room packed full of clubbers dancing the night away.
It was then that I decided it was time to head out for a whiff of fresh air, and chill out in the upper level room listening to some mainstream house. But having spent a heap of time getting down in the main room, by that stage it was time to have one last drink and call it a night. But one thing that I did learn from my studies on Saturday night was that Kink has a whole lot to offer: without doubt the weekly event is continuing to grow in popularity, and I’ll surely be back for another lesson soon.
