End of the financial year for some, middle of winter for others – either way you need little excuse to party, and the cold weather certainly wasn’t holding back the masses who were keen to check out Home’s re-energised Saturday night offering Famous.

We arrived early at 10.30, heeding warnings of long lines and delayed entry during peak periods. The door staff were doing a great job of letting people through as easily as possible, however the club was already rather full when we entered and I could imagine the difficult task of balancing the needs of frost-bitten clubbers on the outside and occupancy limitations on the inside.

Electro house is as ubiquitous these days as, oh I don’t know… Texas Hold ‘Em Poker maybe! And while it certainly brings a ‘fat’ sound that is well suited to Home’s impressive speaker system, the lack of warmth may go some way towards explaining a surprisingly muted response to Carl Kennedy’s enthusiastic set. From my vantage point on the mezzanine level, it was interesting to note both that several young men bravely stuck to their fashionable hoodies while dancing up a storm among the scorchin’ body heat of a packed dancefloor. I noticed that when a synthy melody was dropped in on top of the chunky electro vibe, the crowd revved considerably. Perhaps it’s time for the next big sound.

Meanwhile upstairs in the ‘Infamous Theatre’, Dan Crocetti was delivering a delectable selection of tightly constructed minimal grooves to those seeking shelter from the heat and crowds of the main room. Out in the main room Funkagenda hit the stage, amping it up a notch or two with an interesting and palatable mix of prog/tech/electro sounds. Highlights included the Rene Amesz & Peter Gelderblum remix of Faithless’ Insomnia and the Oliver Huntemann remix of the Chemical Brothers Do it Again. Back in the Infamous Theatre, Crispin delved further into deep tech territory, a micro-disco of tight beats flawlessly mixed and pumped through the Theatre’s killer sound system.

If you had wandered upstairs you would have found a more intimate vibe still kicking on the Terrace, with J-Flex dropping the fantastic Trentemoller remix of Rokyskopp’s What Else is There to an excited dancefloor of me.

A night out at Famous is a smorgasboard of sounds, and Future must be commended on the diversity of acts they’ve so far managed to secure. Nobody does big room like Home and it was with tired but happy feet that we braced the cold morning air on our way home.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
