Most of us know Pharmacy as the dark and dirty side of the harder dance genres. On this night, however, Pharmacy decided to try a new theme; always look on the WHITE side of life! The dirty tunes that previously made us require a shower upon hearing them were replaced by euphoric melodies which took us close to heaven.
Hard trance was pumping out of rise from the moment it opened its doors. The crowd slowly built and resident Simon Barwood took many on a journey of bliss with some of the best hard trance remixes of anthems and melodies from all genres. This was the night I realized Barwood can play any genre of dance music; well.
Vandall, for the first time in Perth from the UK, began his set at 1 AM. I had never heard any of his tracks before but had heard good things. I could see he had much skill behind the decks, constantly playing with the track using just about every trick in the book. However his track selection was below par of what we usually expect from Rise. Yes he had some anthems that made everyone go off but they were few and far between and the tracks didn’t fit in with the theme of the night. Maybe he’s more of a producer than a dj, or perhaps we just didn’t see him at his prime regardless I wouldn’t mind seeing him again though.
Scot Project was next. This man has either produced, remixed or has had his work remixed in at least ten percent of all hard trance tracks that are played these days, and for good reason. Having high expectations for him I was in fear of being let down after Vandall’s performance. It turned out I had nothing to fear, this man was great. Nobody could resist jumping to his beats; everybody on the dance floor could not stop moving.
The night was an interesting change from Pharmacy’s usual and we were happy for it. If Pharmacy keep to their usual themes I’ll love them, if they throw in the odd ‘Frozen’ event they will be loved even more.
