The Fuze Crew joined forces with the newly reinvented underground radio station Switch Am to present Krank It. The event was entirely volunteer based to raise money for new equipment for the station.
The Station ended up raising over $2000 for all their efforts and with 320 people through the door – they seemed to have impressed. While the event was aimed mainly at the harder edged music the promoter went out of their way to provide a little something for everyone’s musical liking.
The night started with the new and upcoming DJ Hazzard as chosen by the supporters of Switch AM. The bouncy atmosphere of his set really got the crowd pumped for the night. As this was his first performance
out and about he seemed a little plagued by nerves initially but very quickly recovered and the rest of his set was brilliant. The selection of music was perfect for the first set of the night and with tracks like Make it Bounce and Plus Systems – Do it like we Do I certainly cant wait to see more of him in the future . Hopefully next time it will be a later set time so more people can experience what he has to give.
With an introduction like Gummy Bears the ringtone and one half of the DJ duo wearing a pirate hat and wig – the crowd knew they were going to be in for something different. Konflikt otherwise known as Torne and Habitual took to the stage with their crazy antics and delivered one of the first jumpstyle sets to be played in Brisbane. The boys delivered a well structured set progressing from a fun, bouncy jumpstyle with tunes like Say Goodbye( Furax Redshark remix) and Frozen Flame by Jeckyll and Hyde into a darker hardstyle with tunes such as their very own Konflikt – The Start of the End. The on and off stage antics of this duo had the crowd pumped and those who were up the front were treated to a fine display of stomping by Torne. I cannot wait to see what’s next for these two.
It was quite a change to see LukeS out on his own for a change instead of the usual LukeS b2b Jody6. LukeS started his set with psytrance and unfortunately most of the crowd seemed to dissipate outside for cigarettes and chatting, those who stuck out the psy were treated to tracks such as Bizare Contact – The Beach (System Nipel Remix) and Hypersonic Zuma. Once the music progressed into the hard trance, several of those who had disappeared outside returned and were graced with tunes such as Nick Sentience – Into Action and Open Your Mind – Phil Reynolds vs Technikal. However, these tunes weren’t for me and I found myself venturing outside along with several others. Most mentioned that they didn’t feel that the psytrance fitted into the timeslot and I have to say i agree. Most would have enjoyed LukeS’ set more had it been entirely hard trance.
Jody6 and Justin Charge took over the decks and I managed to find my dancing shoes. The boys delivered a very tight-knit set and the tunes blended together very smoothly. It’s always a pleasure to watch Jody behind the decks as his love of music really shines through. Jody and Justin had me captivated for the entire hour they played. It seemed quiet a lot of effort had gone into their song selection for the evening including several originals such as No Drugs by Jody6 and The Music by Justin Charge. The hard trance lead smoothly into the hard house that followed.
Mk Ultra and Agent A got off to a great start with some very uplifting hard house. And it wasn’t long until they had the dance floor stomping and shuffling away with tunes such as Caspers’ Deformed . However, towards the end of the set the boys suddenly went downhill and the dance floor started to clear again.
Now I’m not one who is into freeform, but when its being delivered by Wovn and DuaneMC i always find myself dancing my heart out and thoroughly enjoying the tunes and what they delivered at Krank It was no exception. Their opening track went down a treat for everyone who was present. Wovn was very enthusiastic with the tracks he played and this was expressed through his facial actions, and by the way he interacted with the crowd. At some stage during the set Duane lost his marbles and retired from the decks leaving Wovn to take the crowd on a fantastic journey of fine freeform with tracks such as 120 Suicide.
By 3am the crowd seemed to have doubled and it was clear what most of the mass was here for – Flashpoint and his Gabber. I was amazed by his ability to seamlessly mix his tracks one after the other was flawless. Flashpoint seems to have gone from strength to strength and with the inclusion of tracks like Twist by TommyKnocker.
I have never had the opportunity to witness Dr Oneironaut and his industrial hardcore prior to Krank It so I had no preconceptions of what the set was going to be like. Although the tunes were a lot more abrasive than i was used to, one can’t complain. The heavy beats kept me awake and the melodic breakdowns gave me just enough time to reset my breathing patterns. His track selection provided just what the patients needed. I look forward to catching more of the Dr out and about.
Overall I had a fantastic time and I feel that this was one of the better Fuze events I have been to. It’s amazing to see just how much effort went into putting this event on. Congratulations to all who were involved.
