Loop Bar is one of those venues that has an air of artistic creativity about it. It exudes a vibe that sometimes makes me wonder if I’m really still in Australia anymore. Stepping inside and taking a seat on the comfy and cosy couches, it has an atmosphere that reminds me of my time in many of the well constructed and designed bars in Japan. Loop may not be the biggest and bestest bar in Melbourne, but one thing going for it is that it does play host to a few local nights that showcase some of Melbourne’s lesser known, yet far from lesser quality, DJs and producers. One of these such nights is Noir which had its launch at Loop, its new home, on Friday 2nd November.
With their self-proclaimed mission to play ‘100% underground deep minimal tech house’, Noir is a great way to cap off the week and kick-start your weekend dose of mayhem. Drawing a varied crowd of trendoids, design uni students, suits and the more relaxed Melbournites, the night provided a solid building set that got deeper and deeper by the minute easing away your weekday worries.
Starting off the night was Jimmy Electrix, who made the transition from end-of-work drinks to the beginnings of a club night smoother than that first beer after work feels, and then with Elektra driving on with more minimal beats. Unfortunately I missed Laurent Dupré and Michelle Valenti, however Laurent will be playing at Blow Your Own Way on Monday night so I’m keen to catch him then as I’ve heard he’s pretty darn good!
I’d recommend this night, so keep an eye out for the next one being advertised! Not only is this a wicked night, but it’s also run by a really nice bunch of people as well. I’m really looking forward to this becoming a regular and well frequented night by Melbourne clubbers seeking a wanker-free environment to wind down to on a Friday.
