Last weekend saw me heading to Surfers Paradise club not once, not twice but three times over the two days. It all kicked of on the Friday night of 2nd November. Walking down Orchid Avenue on a Friday evening, you might have wondered what was going on at The Bedroom as it was the only venue in Surfers Paradise with a line of people eagerly waiting to get in. Not that this is anything out of the ordinary: as the locals would tell you, The Bedroom is busy every weekend.
Resident DJ MC Mike was celebrating the end of the week, using an upbeat mix of commercial house and dance to get the party started. Next was one of the Bedroom’s finest residents Gerry Morales. Showcasing his talent in a concoction of global house and upfront electro, he worked the crowd into a frenzy with the help of Joey Mojo. Joey’s set had an infectious bounce with cheeky vocals and groovy bass lines, and at times tended to get dirty with heavy riffs and grinding synths. It proved to be just what everyone needed to set up the foundations for a great weekend.
And then it was Saturday night. Bedroom on Saturdays is synonymous with good music, and last weekend was no exception. MC Mike started the night again with fresh commercial house, using his skills to fill the dance floor and set up the room with a feel-good party vibe.
And following him again was Gerry Morales with an abundance of records to choose from. One thing is certain, his sets encompass a vast collection of music of all different styles: from big room house, grooving tech, bumping and jackin’ west coast to dirty bottom heavy electro.
Finally it was Timcah’s turn to grace the decks. Creating a huge dance floor atmosphere with his diverse style of music from funk to upfront house and big room electro, these guys proved once again that The Bedroom ensures a night of unparalleled quality and enjoyment. After all; that’s the point isn’t it?
And then it was Sunday night, which saw The Bedroom playing host for the Mixology 10 CD Launch Party with guest DJs Bexta, Peewee Ferris and Tydi. Resident Gerry Morales was on warmup duties again, kicked off the night with the same intensity and passion from the night before, conditioning the room for the high energy sets to come. Handing over the decks to Peewee Ferris, it was nothing but flawless mixing of techno, hard house and trance just like what you’d expect at an Australian dance event, like Summadayze or Future Music Festival.
Bexta then took over and the crowd was left breathless from the unique style, seamless mixing and track selection of one of the most prominent DJ/producers in Australia’s dance music history. It’s not hard to tell, every time she gets in front of a crowd, she proves that it’s her passion for what she does that leaves us wanting more.
20 year old DJ/producer Tydi wrapped up the night with his distinctive sound of fusing orchestral with electronica. Recently voted No. 4 most popular DJ in Australia, it’s not hard to see why. And once again, The Bedroom produced another unforgettable weekend – and I have some sleep to reclaim.
