The mega all-aged dance party scattered hit Liverpool on Saturday night and with Scooter headlining the 11th instalment, we were guaranteed a night of pure dance heaven. One of the biggest names the rave scene has ever seen, Scooter were making their first ever visit downunder, ensuring a huge crowd would be in attendance.

I arrived at 10:30 and the hordes of people were already mingling out the front of the two rooms. I decided to go straight inside, and instantly was drowned in waves of colour and the sounds of hard trance. Archie was playing to the small but up for it crowd: he wasn’t throwing down too many hands-in-the-air tunes, instead setting up the night with his stylish mixing and of course, his always insane scratching. The floor was quickly filling and the space was being taken up by an army of ravers dressed in all sorts of stylish costumes with glow sticks and lollies in both hands. One courageous punter was in a wheelchair decorated in Christmas lights, and he was loving it!

Next up in the main room was Sydney rave legend Fenix, one of the people who make this rave possible, playing a set with Task. The BPMs went up a bit and it was time for some old-school happy hardcore. The crowd roared in appreciation as they played Drop Zone by Darren Styles. The crowd was beginning to fill and the grandstand at the back of the venue was now full with people who needed to take time out from dancing. This was a smart thing to do with Scooter coming up shortly, as they were keeping there energy for him. Hardstlye DJ Suae had the difficult task of keeping the vibe in the room good and the energies high as the German group Scooter where waiting out the back. I’ve always enjoyed Suae’s style – he mixes like no other, has super track selections and his sampling tops it off.

The music being played by Sydney’s best hard DJs made me forget that there were actually two rooms to this party. I walked into the second room and Weaver was mixing up Send Me an Angel. The room was only about a quarter full so there was plenty of room for the punters to throw there hands about and go insane. Back in the main room Suae was continuing his set and when he dropped You’re My Angel, people grabbed their angels and began singing the chorus to each other.

It was time for Scooter and the crowd was now full glow sticks in the air, chanting “Scooter… Scooter” and then bang: they jumped on stage with fireworks blasting at the front of the stage. They began with Dub Bub and the journey had begun. Ladies were on guy’s shoulders trying to get a better view of the group. They played a song which was a version of Destination Unknown by Alex Guerriera, I’d never heard it before but it sounded alright. Laser lights where splashing from side to side around the room and the screen behind the stage was showing Scooter in big lights. The night was definitely in full swing. Loooking around the crowd were dancing as one, it was a sight to behold. The group were creating a great vibe around the place with their energy behind the decks being thrown into the crowd. Song after song the crowd would cheer as they continued hearing there favourite tunes. When they played the Logical Song the crowd were in awe – it’s a song known by all. Chipmunk singing and a real cheery sound. There set was supposed to only go for an hour and a half but because of the crowd chanting more and more after every song, they ended up playing for more than two hours which I thought was great, and the crowd showed their appreciation from they way they reacted at the conclusion of there set when they played Endless Summer.

I needed time off to get my energy levels back, so I went outside for some fresh air and to find out what people thought of the set. Not surprisingly, everyone dug it. Being outside was cool because you could hear both rooms, and as soon as you hear a song which tickled your fancies then you could run back in and enjoy it. In the second room Pulsar played a remix version of Zombie by The Cranberries, of all things.

This night was just insane – not only did we get one of the best ever rave groups coming to our shores for the very first time, but also the UK’s Scott Brown, Kevin Energy and MC Sharkey continuing giving the crowd the finest selection of banging beats you could ever imagine. This ensured the crowd remained for the farewell of Illfx. Their final set was a beauty and capped of what made for a very memorable Scattered event. Now it was time for everybody to actually be scattered…
