Friday arvo, I had the fear as it was pouring rain in Surfers with less than 24 hours until Oceans 30 was due to open its doors at Fishos on The Spit. With a late wake up Saturday, I was please to see the sun was out if force and everything was good to go for Oceans 30. The DJ lineup was long and one of the hardest things was to decide what time to go to see your favourite DJs, so I decide to try and catch them all from the opening.
A healthy mass of punters were on time for the open and nature provided one memorable sunset with a cool and breezy transition into the evening. One real cool thing was to see Tydi, Baby Gee and Miss Savage chatting to anyone who was willing and also wanted a photo. No fights make for a good events and the punters were in a mostly positive vibe apart from the odd one that security would not let back inside.
There is not enough bandwidth on the ITM server to write a review on each act that appeared at Oceans 30, so i will just say in a nutshell the punters were blown away with the event on the whole and NVS Entertainment has raised the bar once again. One local DJ who played was Flynn who I saw at Crobar last week, he is a real up and coming talent that will be on venue’s hotlist in 2008.
The afterparty for Ocean 30 was set at Crobar down in Broadbeach, so the diehards were just getting started with a long night to look forward to after Oceans 30 concludes. It is good to see another event where attitude was left at the door and 99 per cent of punters had a massive time.
Music wise, I feel we need more DJ festivals on the Gold Coast more often like once a month. I went to the old Freedom parties organized by The Tunnel DJs back in the day and they even managed to hold one inside of Seaworld from 6pm until late. The venue change of Oceans 30 form Carrara Stadium back to Fishos was a blessing in disguise as everyone would of cooked at Carrara, and Fishos provides that cool breeze and surreal sunsets. All I know is that Oceans 40 is going to be triple the fun and Oceans 30 was a solid event and extreme value for money.
