With a hoard of MySpace followers watching his every move, Mickey Avalon is no stranger to the type of crowd that graced YU Saturday night. Across the rooms were found a diverse selection of ‘fans’ that ranged from indie-alternative die hard fans, to teenies and jocks who didn’t even know which performer was Mickey. But nonetheless, Mickey Avalon brought his ‘A’ game down under for the second year running and did not disappoint loyal fans.

With fans flocking, waiting and boozing for Mickey to finally come on, it was obvious to the well-versed music fan that Mickey was being saved for a final huge reaction. The night kicked of with Tell The Kidz cutting up the decks with their indie/electro tunes, pleasing the music hungry crowd. But all waited in anticipation for the main act. As the time drew near, Mickey’s crew began to claim the stage, with actor turned rapper Dirty Nasty geeing up the crowd with the first rhymes of the night. The crowd was buzzing through his whole act, jumping and singing along, they knew who was next to come.

A silence on the music came down as Dirty Nasty finished his last song. The crowd hung on every word as he introduced “Mickey F**King Avalon”. Walking out from behind the YU decks, he soaked up the admiration and as Roll the Dice began he quickly got down to business. With desperate die hard fans packing the floors by this stage, Mickey hammered out two of his major hits and was spewing out lyrics harder than a bulimic who had just downed a three-course meal. Starting with Waiting to Die, the crowd reaction was insane, but unbelievably the whole of YU and Soho seemed to move when the short sharp beats of Mr. Right began to play.

Mickey was on fire, enthralling the crowd with only a mediocre sound system to make use of – he made it sound like a fully-fledged concert arena. He threw out a few more lyrics before stopping to address the crowd wishing them all a “Happy Mardi Gra.” When suddenly to the bewilderment of the crowd Led Zeppelin Whole Lotta Love began to play through the club. Fans were surprised but eagerly waited for what was to happen next…_Hustler Hall of Fame_. The next song made every female in YU weak at the knees as he began to rap, “So rich, so pretty.” With girls salivating at the front of the stage, Mickey got into it, leaning into the crowd, fans reaching trying to get a touch of the former Boulevard walker.

He played a few more songs working the crowd and talking shit, before it was time to wrap up the show, saving the best for last, all his crew on stage, they began to cult hit My Dick as the crowd of screaming fans almost tore the roof off, definitely getting the club into more trouble about noise restrictions. After the show, Mickey and his crew quickly retreated up to Soho, to meet and greet his loyal fans. The night was only just beginning as the Mardi Gra consumed the rest of the city.
