My trip to see “Audun’s Electric Boogie Show” at Elsewhere on the Surfers Paradise last Friday had me feeling the full force of anticipation. Escorted to the DJ console by the lovely hostess Fern, I saw Casey Steele behind the decks just as he was finishing up his set, with the punters well and truly warmed up for Audun.

Casey had punters filling the dancefloor and swaying to his tracks, all bathed in the surreal light of Elsewhere. A collection of vibrantly dressed and blissful punters swayed as Casey served up his music, all drawing towards the climax when Audun would take over. Casey’s track selection was obscure but undeniably top quality. Winding up his set, Casey had made sure the Elsewhere crowd were well on their way to getting started.

Audun came on to continue with the pleasure. There is something magnetic about Audun, his music drawing more and more punters to the dancefloor with the vibe permeating throughout the entire club. The Electric Boogie Show seemed to have it’s own devoted following, with a surge of the faithful punters flowing into the club as soon as Audun commenced. He was constantly hard at work on the mixer, perfecting his sound rather than merely cueing up the next CD and waiting it out. Elsewhere’s retro style dancefloor was like a rainbow, with animated punters lifted higher as Audun’s set progressed.

It was pleasing to see a dedicated few spend the majority of Audun’s set simply watching him work – some of whom may prove to be the next generation of DJs. Elsewhere’s relaxing atmosphere was great if you wanted to take a break from the dancefloor, as you could keep up the momentum even while seated. Soon enough, though, Audun would throw in a few offbeat tracks to draw everyone out of their seats and back onto the floor.

After just two visits to Elsewhere, it’s left its mark on me and remains in my mind a happy club with a discerning audience who are into their music. And, with Audun as the musical director on Friday evenings, you can be sure to see him smashing the dancefloor.
