What better way warm up your pre-winter blues than with a Sunday session at one of Canberra’s most sophisticated establishments? Knightsbridge Penthouse in Braddon is the perfect place to relax and chat. Even better, still, was the chance to schmooze it up with the Silver Sundays crew; a gathering of some of Canberra’s most interesting members of the arts community.

Silver Sundays kicks off around 5pm, and is an intimate gathering featuring the sweet sounds of locals Ashley Feraude and VJ superstar Jim Medcraft. Knightsbridge is the perfect venue for such an occasion – cool and incognito – boasting comfy couches, classy cocktails and a friendly atmosphere. There were a few people there, all talking, drinking and having a genuinely good time. I really enjoyed being amongst it as the place had a great vibe. I met some very nice folk who I was able to share great conversation with, devouring tasty tapas over a few glasses of New Zealand white. The tapas plates were served around 6pm, with a variety of cheese, crackers, semi dried tomatoes, pickles, pate and some strawberries and dates for the sweet tooths. A fine touch to the evening.

In addition to the atmosphere there was excellent entertainment. Ashley Feraude was in charge of the sounds; as usual he awakened the crowd, playing funky lounge tunes that oozed sexy, cool and laidback appeal. Jim Medcraft worked the room with visuals across two screens. I was impressed at the diverse range and quality of images that Jim used. He manipulated landscapes, colours, shapes and text to create an interesting display. I often found myself peering up from my glass to admire or contemplate what was on show. Together, the sound and the visuals teamed nicely to generate a fuzzy ambience that was comforting and inviting.

By around 8pm the Silver Sundays evening was coming to a close, however there were a few people who remained keen to continue. Overall, what I really liked about such an occasion was that it was not a ‘gig’ or ‘big night out’. It was somewhere to chill, unwind and revel in good food, good wine and good company. I think this may have to become my Sunday local…
