Sex On Substance. When first glancing at the tag SOS one can only help to think of what its logical meaning is… But the trio, consisting of Desyn Masiello, Omid 16B and Demi, have other things in mind. As the Logic crew celebrated its 3rd birthday with the booking of this massive international act, Barsoma and a decent sized crowd were only happy to join in the celebrations.
Strolling through the concealed doors of the club at around 11.30pm had me experiencing such intimacy I hadn’t seen in the Valley before. This club boasts solid décor, friendly staff and a nice outdoors area to chill. The sounds of BPM already had the dancefloor grooving, the crowd growing by the minute. With a firm progressive groove being laid down, the night was shaping up perfectly. Highlights of BPM’s warm-up included the Seamus Haji remix of ‘Overpowered’, and Pass The sun Tan Lotion, both of which sent the crowd into a prog induced frenzy. He continued with some funky, yet melodic, prog, and the dancefloor filled in anticipation for SOS.
Come 12.30am the crowd was starting to get a little worried, that was until the boys from the UK appeared in their hideously amazing Hawaiian shirts, a definite highlight of the night for me. Armed with an entourage of CDJ1000s, DJM800 mixers, EFX1000 units and even a live drum kit, the capacity crowd was in for a spectacle. I was keen to see how the trio would gel, considering Desyn’s slightly more progressive approach to music. Opening the set with tech-infused house and the odd melodic progressive track thrown in, it had me a little puzzled as to what approach they would be taking for the night.
Two hours in and SOS were starting to find their groove and structure. With seamless mixing that had me absolutely gob smacked, and the progressive bombs starting to make an appearance, the friendly crowd was up for a solid finale. The breakdown of Manuel Tur’s ‘You Won’t Change (Day Edit)’ ignited the floor, as well as what I classed as track of the night, Oliver Giacommotto & John Acquaviva’s ‘Gail in the O (Acquaviva remix)’. The roof of Barsoma was well and truly ripped off! The last hour comprised of driving progressive bombs with the odd melodic number thrown in to give the crowd a breather.
With the epic set finally coming to close just before 5am, the Barsoma crowd had been treated to very special night. The atmosphere was electric from the first beat and I haven’t seen such a friendly crowd for a very long time. Happy birthday Logic, Brisbane looks forward to at least 3 more years service from you guys!
