Well well, isn’t this becoming one of the hottest nights in Sydney? Ministry of Sound Classics took over the Arthouse on Saturday night, and it was huge. The venue was packed to the rafters by 10pm, and we all couldn’t wait to see what the night had in store for us. Quickly finding a posse in the middle of the dancefloor, I settled in with huge expectations from the last two Classics events I’d been to. And I wasn’t disappointed. Born Slippy made an appearance and of course, lots of Groove Armada tracks to get the dance floor moving. Before long we were like a heart beat and we were all grooving, woohooing and throwing our hands up in the air in unison. I love nights like this!

To get a few quick gripes out of the way, the night could have done with a few set times posted up on the wall here and there, because it’s always good to know who’s playing and when. And the sound needed a bit of tuning: it lost a stack of volume once you moved to the back of the club, and if you’re going to have massive tunes then you need massive sound. But lets put those aside; grabbing a drink from the extensive Arthouse bar, I moved into the side room to listen to Ilya – one of my all time favorites. Carrying a disco feel, his tunes brought back many memories and the vibe was just a happy buzz of party people enjoying the tunes. Space wise, I like this room better. It has a plethora of chillout lounges and a funky little dance floor that lets you groove with an intimate group of party people. The sound is fantastic with the high ceilings, and the DJ booth doesn’t take up any dance space at all.

Three quarters of the way through Iilya’s, set I ventured back into the main room. Huge tunes were being pumped out, and of course the crowd was loving it. By this time it was only 2:30am, and I was getting revved up for a marathon dance effort. But before that happened, I went to check out the massive leather couches and the artwork that’s donning the walls this month at The Arthouse. Not my thing but hey, whatever rocks your boat right! The paintings were quite the topic of conversation for a few of us, and it kept us amused for a while. That’s of course until I heard Chase the Sun, and this track would have to be one of THE best tracks written for old skool dance lovers ever! Bold statement I know, and I am sure a few would not agree but this song makes me get butterflies in my tummy and dance my little heart out! And I did just that. By the time 5:30 am rolled around I was a sweaty mess, and made the decision to exit before the lights came on. A smart move when you have been on your feet for 6 hours, and want everyone to think you still have it together!

Taking place every couple of months, this makes for a phenomenal night out. The most incredible tunes are thumped out for all to enjoy, and I will certainly be looking forward to the next one!!! As for Arthouse, I really like this venue in spite of a couple of issues related to sound that were mentioned earlier. It has a great feel to it, and you can always find a space to shake your thang. Keep your eyes peeled people – the next one is coming up soon!
