Breaks N Enter, the weekly offering brought to us by the always impressive and entertaining ADICTS crew, is renowned for serving some of breaks’ most massive and hard hitting international talent. The latest instalment was no exception, with Brisbane boys Bitrok and UK outfit NAPT featuring, as well as the ADICTS crew of course. The night promised to be a audio onslaught of woofer shaking basslines and booty bumpin’ beats. That’s exactly what was supplied…..and then some.

To get things warmed up Verner set the pace nicely with his selection of tunes, the smooth mixing complemented suberbly by the unique sounds of trumpet and tasty rhymes, supplied by Disco Daz and MC KNO. Taking over the reigns with ease, it was hard to tell when Verner finished and Sangers began, but either way before we knew it Sangers was doing his thing. Though the crowd was still mostly mingling outside, the few that ventured in were treated to a set of big bass, crunching beats and tight snares. It had more than a few heads nodding, but most of the punters seemed to be saving themselves. They had good reason.

From the moment NAPT got behind the decks the vibe (and volume) went up about ten notches. From the very start they set the tone for what was nothing short of an awe inspiring performance. The segue from the first to second track featured a serious breakdown, with vocals letting us know exactly who they were building to a fearsome tempo. The snare rolls increased, and it culminated with the wildest remix of Justin Timberlake ‘My Love’ I’d ever heard. They managed to draw the crowd in entirely, and had them eating out of their hand for the next hour and a half. The set was mostly mad up of originals, and what struck me first is how much they sounded like the Stanton Warriors. That’s not to say they didn’t bring their own unique style to the booth, it’s just that it’s no real surprise that these boys where nominated in this year’s Breakspolls Best Producer category. It’s not their first taste of Breakspoll success, as in 2006 they where nominated for Best Breakthrough Producers and also took home the coveted Best Breakthrough DJ, both well deserved accolade as their sound is nothing short of top quality.

The intimate but appreciative audience rode the audible waves, with ebbs and flows as the duo switched tempos, blended and cut tunes. What stood out the most, though, was how well they worked together. Both of them were cuing tracks, tweaking EQs, fading and curring in unison. The energy from the boys was clear, and it translated to the crowd as there were very few times that people left the dancefloor. When NAPT handed the reigns over to Brisbane’s very own Bitrok, it certainly didn’t slow down any. Bitrok have played the GPO many times, and though the night had seemed to peak already, their brand of hard electro and breaks still satisfied the crowd. Now a little less in numbers, the punters were giving it all they had, though it was evident the petrol tanks were getting a little empty. My tank being one of the emptiest!

I didn’t manage to stay till the death, so I can’t say how the night finished up, but what I can say is that from what i experienced Bitrok have what it takes to go to the next level. They are already getting well deserved props on DJ charts, internet radio shows and from big names such as Nick Thayer, Meat Katie and Rennie Pilgrim. Overall, it also seems that month in, month out, the ADICTS crew are bringing the big names, and this night was no exception. If you like your beats broken and your basslines phat and funky, then keep your ears tuned to the GPO on a Friday night because Breaks N Enter will give you exactly what you need.
