Friday 18th April brought something new and exciting to my life. An influx of bona fide beats, supple surrounds and pleasurable patrons occurred, and all at the newly launched night Flux at Lady Lux. Flux was a night of the aforementioned beats, matched with top Sydney DJs Bass Kleph, Jasmine, Adam Bozzetto and Clive Morley.

Of late Lady Lux has always lacked a crowd until the stroke of midnight, but due to a shuffle of promotional teams the venue now enjoyed an early and bustling start. Clive Morley of Platform 12 in London has joined the Lux clan for a much needed makeover, bringing the energy and foresight needed, along with his experience on how to run a night.

Upon arrival it was refreshing to encounter neighbourly door staff, they had an edge for control but keenness to accommodate punters. It was also nice to see care and hospitality at the venue, as when it started raining the waiting guests were sheltered from the down pour by massive golf umbrellas. Aw… shucks! Entry was swift, as was the free champers on arrival. It’s times like these I love being a laaaaady.

Aesthetically the decor of Lux is soothing and sexy, thanks to the low ceiling, cosy corners and patterned walls. DJ Jasmine was up first, playing a deep house-twinged set, which geared up for the bustling dancefloor that was to come. Although it was a proud moment to witness the female form behind the decks, I was a little bemused by the tedium. More energy and less monotony would have sufficed to entice people onto the floor. In saying that, I noticed punters dancing anyway because of space constraints around the bar.

Up next was Stu Tyson, aka Bass Kleph. Sporting an alias like that the DJ promises his name in tunage. Newly accustomed and already master of the electro and tech sound, Bass Kleph has carved a fresh face with tunes like ‘Bump Uglies’ and more recently ‘Helium’. When he took over the quality intensified the dancefloor, where the electro tech was served up with precision mixing. The Vacation Records captain was in full flight and the punters were responsive.

Following the Kleph it was time for the club’s new promoter Clive Morley to step up. Laurent Garnier’s ‘The Man With The Red Face’ remixed by Mark Knight was gleefully played to the gratification of the crowd, along with others like Sandy Vee ‘Bleep’ and Tocadisco. Quality tunes left and right were pumped out, along with favourites ‘30 HZ’ by Miles Dyson, ‘D.A.N.C.E’ by Justice and tried and tested faves by the Plumps and Fedde Le Grande.

Adam Bozzetto (or more aptly Bozzo) polished the night off with some crisp curtain calls. He managed to maintain a healthy crowd till 5am, rife with forefront tunes and unmarred mixing. Tailor-made to Sydney’s tastes, the night overall also didn’t follow any of the tired trends that riddle the city. As easy as it is to hire the same DJs, Flux steered clear ensuring the flavour was fresh and of the utmost quality. I most certainly look forward for more.

Bass Kleph is back again this Friday, and now that the weathers warmer I'm sure Lux will pull an even bigger crowd - gotta love Fridays!
